Question about being a Research Assistant

Post by lsatextreme » Wed Jun 20, 2012 11:06 pm

I realize this depends entirely on your professor and the position, but from people's experiences, are RA positions during the school year (not summer) pretty time-consuming? I want to see how much time per week I should expect to allot into one when I do one this upcoming fall...TIA!

EDIT: Also, does anyone know when would be the ideal time to apply for a RA position? I applied for a professor for this summer but he told me be already had one for the summer but to let him know if I'm interested for the fall so I'm trying to see when would be the ideal time for this...maybe just before the fall semester starts in August?

I've been logging about 5-6 hours a week working on mine. Totally doable.

Depends 100% on the prof and his/her assignments, time frame, etc. Just ask explicitly what they're expecting and gauge how flexible you think they'll be.
