Recommend some legal reading

Post by Lycurgus » Fri Jun 01, 2012 6:02 pm

I don't read enough about the law and its developments (blogs, books, etc.). The only reading I do is for my classes. Anyone have any recommendations they enjoy or found useful?

After hearing my profs talk about how awesome Oliver Wendell Holmes' writing (Path of the Law, The Common Law) is I downloaded free versions of both on my e-reader and will try to tackle them this summer. I also have a copy of the Bramble Bush that I only got about ten pages into during the semester that I'd like to read.

Maybe you'd also find some of the books out there about the Supreme Court's history interesting (Peter Irons' "The People's Court" and Jeffrey Toobin's "The Nine" come to mind).

I've also found reading bios of the early leaders of our country who had a hand in the development of the Constitution interesting, like David McCullough's bio of John Adams.

Would love to see other people's suggestions too. I need some new stuff for my summer reading list.

Read The Buffalo Creek Disaster. It's arguably the most practical look into civ-pro you can get.

Here are some links you may find useful:

What kind of legal developments are you interested in reading about? WSJ has a "law blog", and NYT dealbook has a section on legal news in the business world.

I'm open to anything others find interesting, still trying to develop a legal identity if you will. I'm particularly interested on people's reactions and opinions on modern trends in developing law.

Good thing when you're in practice no one gives a shit about that stuff.
