journal editorial board positions, statement of interest?

Postby ef9 » Tue May 08, 2012 1:50 pm

for competition for journal editor board, what should one say in the statement of interest? anyone have a sample I could look at, unsure of how cover letter-y it should sound? or do the statements not matter because all is determined by grades?

Bumping this because I want to know. I understand that maybe secondary journals want to know why you're interested in the subject matter, but what do you say for general interest journals like law review? Could you get away with tweaking your law school PS if it's relevant? No idea what these are supposed to be like and samples would be very very very appreciated.

my personal statement was more "literary" haha I'm imagining this is a straight to the point cover letter, look what I did kind of a statement...or maybe saying what you will do if in the position, how you affect the journal...no clue

Mine was really sarcastic and made not-so-subtle jabs at the self-important attitude of most of the 3rd year law review members. I didn't get the positions I wanted.

@piccolittle do you know if the writing sample has to be within the area of the journal? or can it just be some unrelated topic just with lots of citations

I feel like we didn't get enough communication on this

The writing sample just needs to be our LPW brief sections (stips, facts, argument). The personal statement should be tailored to the journal, from what I understand.

Also, bumping this for others' input.
