3l at TTT here. 50k debt. Top 15%. Beginning Art III clerkship in Aug (major market district). Read it and weep.

1L. Nope, but I turned down a internship with a state judge cause I can't afford to live there without getting paid.

I will say that I was really happy with the opportunities that were available (thanks to TLS for lowering my expectations to almost nothing). I had some pretty good interviews. Magistrate judges and some biglaw firms.

Contrary to popular belief, there ARE biglaw prospects at TTT, but you need to be top 10% to even be competitive.

I'm happy with my decision because my tuition amounts to just over 5k a year. Really hoping to bump into the top 10% after this semester and have legitimate a shot at biglaw.

Very good credentials. There are a few who are alumni of my school, but the majority of them went to T20 and many of those graduated cum laude and were on Law Review. The ones who are alumni have taught there for a very long time (40+ years) and are highly regarded in various areas of law within the state. I have not done any research, but the lowest ranked school that I've heard of any professor graduating from (aside from mine) is Vanderbilt. Several professors went to Harvard/Yale. Two of my five current professors have a PhD in addition to their law degree.

The substantive education seems very similar to a T1. I would say the only meaningful difference is the curve.

None of my friends know what OCI stands for. 90% of the class is taking the summer off or taking a class or two.

And it seems like the only decent job opportunities go to those on law review. Firms will go through law review directly when looking for SAs, so the rest of the school has no idea.

I didn't apply to very many schools, but I turned down one in the upper T2 ranks. I didn't study for the LSAT so my score was not impressive. It's still in the upper 25% percentile for my school, but I think it was other stuff on my resume that got me the scholarships.

Hard to tell, really. One of my exams was very much like a highschool test, which I was not happy with. I know most of the people in the highest ranks literally memorized their entire outlines word for word... not sure if that's common, but it surprised me. I would say it depends on the class, but most of them involve your standard law exam fact patterns.

Also, my TTT is a very different experience than OP's. Big law interviews as a 1L are non-existent, even for #1. Pretty sure mid-law is non-existent as well. For instance, our spring OCI consisted of JAG and some local company looking for kids to do finance work. For summer, I'm doing fed. dist. internship/small law. I think only 3 big law firms come to OCI, but who knows if they even take kids from my school for SAs. According to the bios of last year's SAs, they don't.

I'd say 50% of my professors come from T6. 40% from T25. 10% are alumni of the school (adjunct professors). I think this is so because quality of life in my region is pretty decent.

Also, priorities seem pretty backward here. People get scholarships for being "best student organization leader" and not for being top of the class. None of my friends know what OCI stands for. 90% of the class is taking the summer off or taking a class or two.

that's how i've taken every test i've ever taken.

i just outline relevant info (anywhere from 5 to 30 pages), read it three or four times, and presto! it's memorized.

I think a lot of the people in my class think that the recession does not exist for lawyers. My friend, who is jobless for the summer and doesn't have a very good ranking, is convinced his starting salary is going to be $100k.


A lot of people have also decided not to do the write-on competition for LR because they want to travel for the summer or don't want to subtract from beach/tanning time.

When I talk to people like that I feel bad for them for a moment, and then I thank God for them.
