The buyer sent me a message 1 week after they placed the order, and on a Monday following a 3 day weekend asking when they would receive the book. I replied that I sent the book and it would arrive withing the next 1 week give or take a few days (media mail standard). Now I have a message stating they never received the book and want a refund. Has this ever happend to anyone? It seems suspicious.
Yes this has happened to me and is why I always buy delivery confirmation regardless of how cheap the item is. I also have had an item lost in the mail. If this is a legit claim by the buyer, you should receive a letter from USPS saying that they found a torn up package in their warehouse. Usually the ink on the package isn't going to be lost so they should have your address even if the item got messed up/lost. Also, even if you didn't use delivery confirmation, there might be a way for USPS or UPS to confirm delivery.
