Negotiating scholarship after 1st semester?

Post by nonprofit-prophet » Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:50 am

I've heard of people doing this, but I'm not sure how they went about it. Anyone know who to speak to? Does UT do this? WHat kind of grades are required?

I've only heard of it in the context of transferring after second semester.

Ok. So if you get accepted to another school you can send that acceptance to your financial aid dean? Is that the general idea?

I know it has happened in the past, just trying to figure out the GPA requirement to pull it off.

So is the consensus that you would need acceptance at a transfer school to leverage?

Nicepete, fwiw I think it has to be close to top 5%, though I'm not sure how close.

I don't think they will offer you any money, especially since the semester has already begun and you probably already paid for your classes. The reason? The school has close to zero incentive to offer it to you because only a handful of schools only allow spring transfers so from the schools standpoint, your not going anywhere anyways why pay you? Plus your grades may dip after Spring grades come out, so they rather wait until the top students start getting transfer offers.

He may be talking about negotiating for 2L and 3L year, just as a safety net in case he tanks this semester. I've heard it done here at my T2. You'd likely need to do extremely well.
