Grades

Postby TempleU555555 » Thu Jan 19, 2012 9:27 pm

Grades came out the other day.

I have a 2.5

Thoughts?

Note that I have work experience and close to a full scholarship, with no stipend...

What is your curve? What's the median at your school?

I would be very concerned. I think after looking for summer employment you may be doubting whether you want to continue. Since you're not paying anything extra, if you're up for it, you could do your best to dominate next semester and see if you can make yourself more competitive.

Yea, trying to work thru it is my general plan. I mean, I think I know and understand what I fucked up on and think I can correct it this semester and get that thing up to around 3.0 or so over the next semester or two.

And the curve is roughly a 3.0, so I'm well below it.

You should drop out of law school.

What are your career goals?

A 2.5 will obviously stop all biglaw chances unless you improve.

Well, my work experience is in big law firms, so I was hoping for big law, but it's negotiable.

I think I can get the GPA higher, but we'll have to see. Maybe I'll stick out another semester and see how it goes and then decide from there.

What school are you at/what is the range?

Edit: also will you lose your scholarship next year if you don't improve?

God damn, what is with all of these people telling folks to drop out. What ever happened to putting your nose to the grind stone and giving it the old college try?

50,000 law students. 45,000 graduates. 30,000 entry level legal jobs.

Math. Math is what happened to the old college try. Math took the old college try into a shed and beat it until it begged for mercy.

You went to Temple hoping for biglaw? That was a mistake.

But I am a special and unique snowflake that will beat the odds. Never forget that.

OP is either a 2L/3L or a liar. I go to Temple and I can tell you that 1L grades are being released today (This explains why I'm up at 5am).

If the former is true you may as well just stick it out, because you're at least half way through with your studies.

If the latter is true, stop wasting everyone's time with lame trolls.

P.S. Your post history makes me think you're a troll, since you claim to be a 1L there. :|

Sorry for the confusion. I'm not really trolling. I'm a student at Rutgers-Camden, but didn't want to be outed, so I just used another local, similarly ranked school.

Sorry. But I would appreciate opinions, still...

I thought that might be the case too, but your Temple related name really through me for a loop. You are definitely committed to your anonymity.

As to the matter at hand, I can't tell you what to do, as a fellow 1L. My grades should be posted within the next 30 minutes, so I'm scared as heck. There is one positive to being at Rutgers though - I believe your curve is slightly lower than Temple's. I'm pretty sure you could get above median with a solid second semester. Biglaw is almost certainly out of the question, but you should be employable as an attorney. If a career in law is your dream, then you may as well stick it out for at least one more semester.

Thanks man, and good luck with grades.

Also, FYI, I'm a Temple undergrad, so the Temple username isn't totally false, but it is misleading...

Why did you attend law school in the first place? Your answer to that question in large part dictates what you should do going forward.
