will I be THAT GUY next semester with an ipad in class?
got tired of bringing in my heavy laptop everyday so I went and bought an ipad 2 with a case and wireless keyboard. I know it's kind of douchey but that's why we're all in law school in the first place right?

It isn't douchey at all. You aren't harming anyone, or being mean or obnoxious to anyone.
It is idiotic though.

I don't understand why people think laptops are heavy... suck it up or get a backpack. It cannot be heavier than what you had to carry in high school.

It's just a personal preference. I don't think there's anything douchey at all about it. There's a guy who sat in front of me last sem in Ks who used an ipad and a keyboard and je seemed to follow along without a hitch. Whoever thinks this is douchey is a douche.

Seriously, the lack of the ability to print at school, where paper and ink are free, is a huge minus to using an ipad for lawschool. It isn't meant to be a word processor. Douchy, no, but a poor choice, yes.

Not douchey to bring an iPad, but I think there are more preferable options. For instance, you could get a netbook for half the price. Or, you could get a Macbook Air and use that as a complete replacement for your clunky laptop, which will probably get your more functionality than an iPad. The specs are decent enough to use as a desktop replacement, especially if you get a full keyboard / monitor to plug into at home.

1) Yes you will be THAT GUY.
2) Is this even 1/2 as functional as a real laptop?
3) Laptops weigh like 7 lbs. What kind of man are you?

There is one guy in my classes that uses an Ipad. We think he is a tool, and the Ipad doesn't do anything to temper that assessment. You can't haul around a laptop that weighs a few pounds because opening it and closing it inconveniences you? Wow.

I set up a full-tower desktop with two LCDs and a multifunction printer-scanner-copier before each class.
Wimp.

You should try to be smart ass and bring your Ipad to a class that doesn't allow laptops.

I think we can apply the, "if you have to ask" rule here.

Re: will I be THAT GUY next semester with an ipad in class?
These are all points that I'd like to emphasize as well. iPads are just less-functional pieces of trendy garbage. See, e.g. http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 5&t=172832 As far as I've seen, literally no one at my law school uses an iPad in class, and I can't imagine a single iPad quality that is superior to its equivalent on a fairly cheap laptop, and tons that are worse. Unless of course a laptop is too heavy for you, in which case you're in for a world of hurt when you have to carry 3 case books at a time in your backpack.Desert Fox wrote:1) Yes you will be THAT GUY.

Just return it and purchase this instead:
http://eee.asus.com/eeepad/transformer-prime/features/
Most people wont be smart(aware) enough to realize it's not a laptop/netbook.

Macbook air is probably just as light as your ipad + keyboard and its a fully functional laptop.

Seriously, whatever works for you. I don't know why anyone would care what you use to take notes on. If it's functional enough for you and works for you go for it.

Re: will I be THAT GUY next semester with an ipad in class?
Dunno why people think OP is a tool for going with a tablet. It's probably because tablets are considered newfangled and anyone who bucks the usual notebook trend gets looked down upon. There's absolutely nothing wrong with reducing backpack weight by several pounds. If anything, we're all eventually hitting that age where carrying around too much leads to more back issues.
OP, you don't have to ask us. Just do what you're doing and know that haters are always gonna hate. You really can't expect to pose a normal question on TLS without having a circle jerk swooping down on ya anyway.
