the cliques are more like middle school because they don't make high school sense. no one is cool in law school. no one is the quarterback or whatever its just different tiers of the kids who were probably in the nerd clique in high school, but super weird that the groups form rapidly and stay pretty solid.

re the bolded--it makes it all the more entertaining when you encounter people who think they're cool. i can't be the only one who's been tempted to say to someone, "dude, you're in law school--you're not that cool."

0L here but your plan of action sounds like TCR.Jessuf wrote:my school has high school-esque cliques. all of the pretty people pal around together and make fun of the awkward dorks who are infinitely more intelligent than them. i prefer to talk with everyone, and in my free time, hang out with non-law school people.

I try to talk with everyone but non-law-school people are not easy to find around here...

Law school is pretty meh.
Likes:
The course work
The Professors
The people I live with
The cheap booze
Dislikes:
Tuition
Grades
I don't think the cliches are that bad but I generally don't pay mind to it.

Our school must be special or something, because I really haven't noticed too many 1)gunners or 2)douchetards. Everyone is basically cool, some are cooler than others, and there are only a few people who everyone knows as "that guy."

Yeah, but one rotten apple and all that...all it takes is for two douchetards to be in the same corner of the lounge, and all of a sudden the school feels infested0LNewbie wrote:Our school must be special or something, because I really haven't noticed too many 1)gunners or 2)douchetards. True... Maybe I'm not very sensitive to it. I'm more the type to laugh off that kind of person than to be annoyed by him.Naked Dude wrote:Yeah, but one rotten apple and all that...all it takes is for two douchetards to be in the same corner of the lounge, and all of a sudden the school feels infested0LNewbie wrote:Our school must be special or something, because I really haven't noticed too many 1)gunners or 2)douchetards. I fucking love having a locker again.Verity wrote:Forgot to add that I love lockers.
About the cliques/lawcest/etc. , I didn't really understand that we had gunners in our section until it was sort of explained out to me in detail. I spent the remaining 1 and 1/2 months paranoid that I was gunner.
Don't be a gunner.

We also have no gunners.

I've never read so much, yet read so little in my whole life. Last semester I made my way through 3 case books and numerous supplements, but did not read a single pleasure book the entire time. I read like 25 pages of Rules of Attraction and then it was pushed to the side. I hate that.

Yeah this is a better way of expressing what I mean by the whole monomania thing. If you let the stress get to you and lose track of your hobbies, interests, intellectual curiosities, you will be miserable. My doom and gloom disposition the last month of the semester came not from the workload or exam stress, but from letting the stress stop me from: working out, et al.LSATNightmares wrote:Losing touch, due to the first-year curriculum, with my otheracademicinterests

For lack of free time? The film is amazing. I suppose watching the movie instead of reading is a bit like cheating, but it's so good and so nineties. And Dawson just makes it that much better.crossarmant wrote: I read like 25 pages of Rules of Attraction and then it was pushed to the side. I hate that.

seriously the opposite sex is winning? yeah, the guys aren't so great, but wouldn't you want to date someone not from LS anyway to save your sanity?

It just says what do you think about most 1L - with the winning choice being opposite sex. Doesn't specify that the opposite sex has to be in law school, at least that's how I chose to interpret it.ilovesf wrote:seriously the opposite sex is winning? yeah, the guys aren't so great, but wouldn't you want to date someone not from LS anyway to save your sanity?
