1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
Well I have been done with finals for 5 days and already people are getting their grades at my law school. Time to start crying together as a group yes?

Good, you found the venue. I'll tag this for my neuroses spewing after Friday.

I'm actually jealous. We don't get grades until Feb 2nd. It's going to be a long two months.

Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
Supposedly all of our grades are supposed to be posted by January 9th last year by the first of the year most people were only waiting for one grade....
Seems funny that my section has assigned professors 800 pages of reading over their break, but they will probably take it out on us.

I'm pretty sure our grades won't be posted for another month.

Wow, lucky they let you off the hook nice and early. I actually realized last night that I have no idea when to expect grades. We take exams later than other schools so I am expecting to get them after everyone else. FML.

Wow, that's really fast turn around. Our LWR grade will probably be posted soon, but I think I'll have to wait until January for the others.

Legal Writing is the scariest class, only 20 people in my section so the curve seems like it will hurt people the worst here.ilovesf wrote:Wow, that's really fast turn around. Our LWR grade will probably be posted soon, but I think I'll have to wait until January for the others.

Where will you guys be happy if you end up in the class?
I'm trying to not think about that so I'm not too disappointed. I think all of my finals have gone well, but I have no idea where that puts me. If I'm below median, I may off myself. I think top 1/3 is my best guess, but WAAHHHHHH

Before finals, I felt that I would only be happy being in the top 1/3. Finals have crushed my soul and I'd be happy at median.Bildungsroman wrote:If I get median I'll be totally satisfied.shock259 wrote:Where will you guys be happy if you end up in the class?

I won't be satisfied with anything below median.

Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
I have a top 33% requirement to keep my scholarship, however if I go to median I keep 75% and it tiers from there so I won't lose all my money regardless.
I felt good about every final but 1 so we will see! I think top 3rd is realistic anything higher than that is so up to the curve... (Even top third is basically at the curve and professors discretion).
All that rambling being said I'll be happy with whatever grades get me a 1L summer job.

Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
How does everyones school grade mine is :
up to 10% > 3.8
up to 25% > 3.5
10-20% < 2.4
Median 3.0 +/- .1
(I have 2 teachers who always do the +.1)
Do other schools use numbers I hear a lot use letters
up to 10% > 3.8
up to 25% > 3.5
10-20% < 2.4
Median 3.0 +/- .1

Before finals, I was shooting for 10-25%. Not any more.
And my school does letters, and the median is a B+. And we don't give out A+'s, so it is a smushed curve to say the least.

We don't even get LRW until after we go back according to the 2and 3Ls I've talked to. All the professors concentrating on graduating 3Ls then everyone else, then us. Except Contracts, she's always getting grades back really fast which sucks because that's my worst subject.ilovesf wrote:Wow, that's really fast turn around. We don't get ours back until the end of January, so I'm just going to have a hot buttered rum and enjoy Christmas break

Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
So in a system like this do basically 20% of people get an A(-) or do just a ton of ppl get B+'sshock259 wrote:Before finals, I was shooting for 10-25%. Not any more.

EDIT: I am trying to decide if I have my grading system here or not.

Wish I was done. Two more to go. And grades don't come out until mid-January except for LRW which I will have on Tuesday. But to echo these sentiments:

I feel like I would be especially worried if we got grades back so soon. It seems unlikely they would have put much effort into grading 50-100 papers to get them back within a week or two...not saying that they put much effort into it anyway though. Haha

Re: 1L Fall Grade Waiting Thread
Is it a bad sign that I actually read "Fail Grade Waiting Thread" at first glance?
Possible FML in progress.... hopefully not, but who knows with this ridiculous law school 3 hour essay exam nonsense. As I've stated before, I'm much rather take 3-4 exams for each course throughout the semester - that way we'd at least have some feedback insofar as what the profs would like to see on an exam. Knowing the material isn't enough... knowing your professor's preferred style seems to be what LS is all about. To me, that seems like an arbitrary method of grading.
