I can't stand that Sierra Nevada. Anything by Deschutes is top-notch. Especially Jubelale, it's very, very good.

What kind of brew is Jubelale? IPA? Stout? Porter? I'm intrigued.

It's a medium-strong ale. It's fantastic. Possibly my favorite seasonal beer ever.

Is this a 21 amendment brew?

Indeed.

I think it's badass they use cans.

Also, since this seems to be taking a turn for holiday brews, see:

Everything New Belgium does it good. Hoptoberfest may be my favorite beer.

If you ever get a chance, tour their brewery in Fort Collins, CO. It's basically the coolest place in the world.

If you can find it, anything from Ninkasi Brewing in Eugene, OR. If you are blessed to be near a respectable bottle shop, their Tricerahops Double IPA is my favorite. Their Sleigh'r ain't bad, either.

What beer did schwar end up choosing?

Was it the right choice?

I tried to find Jubelale but couldn't, so I went with Left Hand Milk Stout which is a favorite of mine. Did I finish the paper? Nope. Still working on it.

Typically a lurker, but I had to join in on this convo.

I will say, I am pumped to see the great choices here. I didn't take TLS as a forum with a good number of beer connoisseurs. I guess it's the profession..

If it's cold where you are, Bell's Expedition Stout. High alc, so not too many. It tastes like love.

Credited. Ideally, you could pull a whole selection of Bell's stouts and handle it as you go. The cherry stout is nothing to sneeze at.

Bell's is so good/underrated. Founders, too, if we're gonna rock the Michigan micros. Gotta go with the dark stuff in the winter.

Bells is a great brewery. Check out Great Lakes Brewing Co. as well, they have a mean IPA called Burning River...

I just actually went to their brewery a few weeks ago over Thanksgiving break. Good stuff. I highly suggest getting a six pack of their Christmas Ale.

Fellow IPA lover here. Couple of my faves below. BTW, you have not lived until you've had the 90 minute on tap.

If anyone ever gets out to San Diego, I'd highly recommend you spend some quality time at Stone Brewery. Bring a Mormon or something so you'll have a ride home... I kid I kid!

Want an IPA: Sixpoint Bengali Tiger

Want to forget you took a final: Gulden Draak or St. Bernardus Abt 12

Want a delicious dark/winter Beer: Delirium Noel or Shipyard Prelude

I will second this. The only one in that I don't like is that Cranberry Lambic crap. That stuff is nasty.

But I don't usually try to "get drunk" so to speak when I drink, and usually drink the darker, heavier beers.

Fat Tire is a good one.

Or Yuengling Black and Tan is also a good one that's probably more readily available

In the interest of contributing, this is one of my favorite "standard" Belgians.

edit: Eh, it's the Westmalle Dubbel. An old standby. :)

Another IPA lover here. Dogfish Head (already mentioned) is always a good choice.
