Is it just me or does it feel like everyone is going to know the BLL which is pretty easy to memorize and understand and the final exam is going to come down to who can spot the most issues and who is better at structuring the essay?

The BLL that we need for the exams seems to be so little. For like every lecture there's maybe half a page of BLL/caselaw that might be relevant?

So what are people doing studying 10+ hours when they aren't taking hypo exams?

It can't all be memorizing the rules can it? There just aren't that many!

1) If you've memorized a lot of "rules" you're not doing it right.

2) You should probably be applying rule concepts to cases/hypos/tests rather than "studying" for 10 hours per day. If your classmates are doing this, they are doing it wrong.

Completely agree with number 2.

Regarding number 1, memorizing rules are a must. But in most 1L classes, you can memorize all the relevant rules in one day (towards the end of the semester). No one should be studying 10+ hours a day or anywhere close to that till the week or so before finals.

I just meant that the rules are not all black and white. You need to know the basis for the rule, but the key to the exams seems to be knowing when the exceptions apply. Not in the sense of if x then y, but if x then maybe y or maybe z here are 18 things to consider in deciding between y and z.

Once you start taking practice tests you can see how easy it is to trip up. I was mostly just doing the reading, thought it was all simple and didn't sweat it. But then I started taking real practice tests and realized how difficult it is to just start analyzing from scratch when you have 2 pages of facts, 6 different parties asserting 15 different claims, and you have an hour to find all the claims, issues, tests, factors, and reach conclusions... So yeah, that's where it gets tricky.

so the work load shouldn't be too bad until we have covered enough material to do some serious hypo exams? makes sense.
