Does anybody have any experience with working while studying for the bar? I know some firms let graduating 3Ls summer again while they are studying for the bar exam. Is it feasible to balance the two?

Bar exams test for competency. Of course you can work & prepare for the bar exam at the same time.

Is it really worth the risk? Take the few months to focus on studying, otherwise you have to wait half a year before you can retake, and another 3 months to wait for results.

I agree with this. In this job market, you can't afford to have not passed the bar exam. I don't think many employers would hold it against you if you wanted to wait to start until Aug. 1. They would, however, gladly replace you in November if you didn't pass. At best they might let you take it in February and then fire you if you fail a second time, but then you'd run into the same problem of working while studying for February. From the things I've read and people I've talked to that have taken the bar, it seems to take people a couple months of studying for 8-12 hours a day. I'm not sure how you could possibly spend that much time and work as well.

Wow. Working while studying for the Bar exam? People certainly do it. Here in N.Mex., we give a temporary license to new state employees who are licensed in another state. These immigrants must pass the N.Mex. Bar at the next offering more than 90 days from the grant of the temporary permit. They do study for the bar while working and they generally pass. Of course, unless they are from Wisconsin and got the diploma privilege, they have already passed a bar exam once and ours is notoriously easier than most.
