All of my stuff is ready to be sent. Just needs stamps. 224 letters. Even with mail merge and modern technology, it took many, many hours to stuff those envelopes.

That advice has gotten staler as the market has gotten worser.

is it bad form to express interest in multiple practice groups? for example, tax & M&A? I am too early in my legal career to really pinpoint exactly what I want to do with myself, do I have to pretend like I am dead-set on one or the other?

Also, if a firm has a corporate practice, and in that practice there are 15 more specific practice areas, do you need to target one of the specific practice areas or can you just say that you are interested in their corporate practice?

I printed all my cover letters today for the judicial internships I'm targeting and I realized that my mailmerge included the date (11/30) on it. Is it going to be bad form to have a date before the 12/1 deadline on my actual letter even if I don't send them till 12/1?

Just dropped all of my 224 letters in the mail. Printing everything, packing the envelopes, and putting stamps on took hours and hours. Hopefully it's worth it.

Not really. If 2L hiring this year has shown us anything, it's that firms are VERY ties sensitive now.

Jesus, people are sending out 200+ applications? I'm sending out like 30 apps (not applying for judicial internships). Now I'm worrying that I'm not doing enough.

I'm not sending out that many tomorrow. I'm applying for judicial internships in the state CoA and I'm only handing in 6 tomorrow. Partly because I'm also interested in public interest, and my first final is tomorrow, so I couldn't really manage to get more applications ready. If I don't hear back soon, I'm sending out more judicial applications on December 13, and then I'll send out my public interest stuff in January.

I did all judicial internships, and they prefer snail mail.

And it is definitely excessive, but I'd rather lose a few hours of my life and a few $$ and have too many options rather than the alternative.

You should be. I sent out around 300. Had impressive grades. Got an informational lunch (salmon!), callback for a 2 week program in a flyover state and a bunch of "we aren't hiring 1Ls." DO YOU SEE WHAT YOU'RE MISSING?!

I'd worry more about grades honestly. Practice exams my friend.

If I go to career services December 12th, would I still have a chance to land something? Keeping in mind the TTT status.

Do you recommend sitting down and typing them up in full, or just outlining an answer (or something else)?

As a 1L? I would type out full answers to a few per class honestly. Then I just issue spotted and outlined an answer. I found torts the most troublesome as far as organization so I typed out more of those exams than other ones but that's just me. I would definitely make sure the first time you actually type out a full law school is NOT on the day it means everything

This thread spooked me and now I'm cranking out "targeted" cover letters for like 15 more summer positions.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
