I'm going through orientation. From 2Ls and 3Ls I keep hearing that outside reading materials (supplements, horn books, prof.'s articles/books, etc.) are pointless and that we shouldn't use them at all, or perhaps only when we're reviewing for finals. This is in sharp contrast to what I've read in the how-to-succeed guides on TLS. Are the upperclassmen just posturing? Does TLS over-hype supplements and "outside" materials? Read in Jerry Seinfeld's voice: What's the deal with supplements?

I for one have only discussed supplements IRL on a one-on-one basis. I wouldn't be surprised if it were posturing but then I am not a 2/3L

Nah but I think it is a fair question that I at least haven't seen on the main supplements thread. Is there a reason for the difference between TLS and IRL beyond posturing?

You will normally get more out of E&E than you will the casebook. As for other supplements, it depends on the course but you can usually pick them up cheap used.

Different things work for different people.

Unfortunately, this is the answer to every study-related question about law school.
