How are you guys setting up your tags/links ? I'm wondering if I have too many tags right now, I have them for rules, definitions, cases, policy questions, etc ...

I like my setup. Once you learn the hotkeys for them (Ctrl + 1, etc.) they become really easy to use while taking notes.

I havent started school yet, but I just copied the OP's setup, as he/she seemed to have everything you would want to tag in your notes.

Is there a way to setup custom keyboard shortcuts in OneNote? Specifically Alt+P for Pi, Alt + D for Defendant, Alt + S for section. I know how to do it in Word, but can't figure it out in OneNote.

Edit: From another thread I set it up to autocorrect p for Pi, d for Delta, and s for section. I also found it helpful to add in a syllabus or administrative section for each section group. Saves me from having to look at the hard copy of the syllabus every time I need to see the reading.

Drag it up from the bottom of your screen. It is the double-thin line at the bottom.

Go to the "view" tab, click "arrangement," then there is a drop down menu that says "First Day of Week." Change that to Monday.

very nice post OP, I had my outlook set up almost the same way for first semester and it seemed to work well. Also, the organization definitely helps for making outlines.

Re: OneNote. You don't have to worry about the left side having too many tabs, since you should be "closing" the notebook after you are done with that semester.

Re: Outlook: You also don't have to check for new emails, if you just you gmail with google talk

Great guide. Rather than having a notebook for each semester, I just make notebooks on skydrive (which onenote syncs to anyway) and then click "open in onenote". You can close them from there and not have them populating your left tab.

I'd have loved this before starting 1l, but I'm too lazy since starting 1l to care.

Excellent thanks! Now to learn how to use OneNote. I've got a month before my first class.

You all need some Xanax. Absolutely do whatever works for you and it sounds like you've been doing this successfully. However this is a prime example of why people don't get in the top 10% of their class. There's no secret note taking formula that will give you an edge. Actually writing your notes by hand and then typing them and then making outlines is one of the most effective ways to study because you're constantly distilling. Good luck though.

An OP there are far more productive things to do for the next month then to learn a computer program about note taking.

I'd like to add that there is a free onenote app for iPad and iPhone as well. It's pretty much the greatest thing ever to always have all of your outlines at the tip of your fingers the week before and of exams. But, the formatting isn't as good on the app, and if you imbed any links to your outline, those will be lost when you use the app. Still, I love having it on my iPad.
