That's just the GS scale for attorneys in main justice. AUSAs are on the AD scale.

I know, this was the pertinent part -
It doesn't sound like it's something they publish.Salary ranges for Assistant U.S. Attorneys differ from the GS salary for that location and are graded based on experience and level of responsibility. Candidates interviewing with a U.S. Attorney's Office should discuss salary requirements with the hiring office.

I haven't been able to, and I've looked. I assume it's more than adequate since people leave big firm jobs for the USAO, and they certainly wouldn't leave for prestige alone.

I'm not disagreeing with your sentiment about their pay. But remember that one's chances of becoming a partner dramatically increase after having worked as an AUSA.kalvano wrote:I haven't been able to, and I've looked. Theres a whole lot of reasons to leave.kalvano wrote:I haven't been able to, and I've looked. I assume it's more than adequate since people leave big firm jobs for the USAO, and they certainly wouldn't leave for prestige alone.
Big Firm Litigation -> Not on partner track -> AUSA -> partner at other firm
Big Firm Gov. Enforcement -> Not on partner track usually unless -> AUSA -> then back to same firm as partner/junior partner.
Big Firm Litigation -> Hate Life -> AUSA
Not uncommon for people to take a six figure pay cut to be an AUSA.

Oh, I'm sure it's a drastic difference. But no one is going into the poorhouse working the USAO.

FWIW, folks at my DoJ office gave the impression that AUSA's start at about 80-100k, and that they're less flexible in negotiating your starting salary than main justice. But I don't have anything firm to link to.
