I mean yeah, who the fuck doesn't want to make friends. 0Ls these days. I got wasted A LOT during the first month of school.
If you're a bit older, live off-campus with your wife/gf, or a recovering alcoholic should you feel bad about declining to attend these events?

1. Show up
2. Get drunk
3. Don't get too drunk
4. Don't hook up with sectionmate
5. Don't mention your LSAT score
6. Don't talk about law school grades despite not having started
7. Be friendly

Go out with your wife have a club soda or two, go home. It is more visible effort to be friendly than getting drunk.

Then how do you decide who to invite to your study group?

You'll have to hack the admissions database and find out the scores that way. How can you believe the scores people tell you?

I know this won't have much, if any, effect on grades, however I'm curious what tips 2L's and beyond have on orientation success. (i.e. meet/greet, things to tell, and what to hold back on telling to future classmates/competitors.) I'm thinking this isn't very important in the grand scheme, however if you regret something about orientation please let me know. Thanks.
I credit my 1L success to my superb chatting up the professors at the cocktail reception. I impressed them from the first day with my maturity and strong grasp of societal issues.
I also used orientation to secure my reputation in the class as a perfect student, and to scope out who I would invite to join my study group, which met for the first time on the sunday before classes began.
