It amazes me that people don't participate in the writing competition. Yo, you want to have something great to add to your resume? Nah, I'm good bro.snowpeach06 wrote:I finally have a draft written. It's far from good, but, at this point something is a hellofva lot better than nothing. So, today will be spent perfecting said draft and the citations within it, and tomorrow is the additional citation exercises. Then... FREEDOM. On the bright side, I know like three people, all with very good grades (but who aren't a shoe-in for law review) that have decided not to participate. So, this is good.

Yeah, I know a few classmates here that are either not applying to any journals at all or are only applying to secondary journals. Most of them have a special interest in a topic of one of the secondary journals, which I can understand, but still... law review is law review.beach_terror wrote:It amazes me that people don't participate in the writing competition. Re: The write-on thread
Luckily it's all one competition at my school (LR + 2 secondaries). So as long as you aren't a terrible writer and budget your time, there's a good shot you'll end up on a journal. There are about 90 spots total (30 LR grade on, 3-5 write on, then 30 on each secondary). Even if you don't get LR, it's still good to have some sort of journal on your resume.traehekat wrote:Yeah, I know a few classmates here that are either not applying to any journals at all or are only applying to secondary journals. That's similar to my school, except even grade-ons have to do a good faith write-on effort.
We have like 120-140 spots across all 3 journals though.

I thought our writing competition deadline was Friday, so I started everything today (not to mention my job kept me extra busy last week). I found out that the deadline is actually on Wednesday. This is going to suck.

Quoting things from the UN, that I'm not even sure what they are, well, that's difficult.

As much as I hated doing write-on right after finals, I have to say it feels nice to no longer be thinking about it.

Ugh...why did I wait so long to work on this?
(I'm pretty sure that statement has been said for pretty much everything I've ever had to do in law school)

So close to done, and yet for some reason my conclusion just doesn't want to make sense. And that is probably the part the readers are most likely to remember. So... fail boat. I give myself until 2 before submitting.

Re: The write-on thread
My submission: least favorite thing I've ever written. It was well-structured and I made sure the cites were perfect, but my argument? Meh. Don't know what to think.

Re: The write-on thread
Even though I think I nailed all of the issues and made strong arguments, my citations were garbage, which probably dooms my submission. I just couldn't bring myself to spend endless hours on the citations.
I think it's grade-on or bust for me at this point.

Yay. I opened up my schedule ahead of time just in case I had to write on, but just got notified I graded on. Looks like a mini vacation coming up.

Jealous. Everyone has to do it at my school, no pure grade-ons.shepdawg wrote:Yay. I opened up my schedule ahead of time just in case I had to write on, but just got notified I graded on. Looks like a mini vacation coming up.
