Same at my school. Except we can grade on to the secondary journals.smokyroom26 wrote:Jealous. Everyone has to do it at my school, no pure grade-ons.shepdawg wrote:Yay. I opened up my schedule ahead of time just in case I had to write on, but just got notified I graded on. Looks like a mini vacation coming up.

I would rather redo 1l than go through that again.

So, 90 people did our write on. There are 20 grade-on law review spots, and 40-45ish journal spots. Assuming 10 people who did the write on graded on, I guess I have about a 50-50 shot. I don't know if that's good or not.

I hate the write on. Come to think of it, I dislike lawl skool completely. I hope it gets better next year when I can take classes I *actually* care about.

WOW. That seems like way too many write-on spots. We have like 4 spots for 75 write-ons.snowpeach06 wrote:So, 90 people did our write on. Are there ever any people who would have graded on, but decline to do Law Review? In such a case, do schools typically reach down farther to number 21, 22, etc? Or is it more likely they'll just increase write-on slots?snowpeach06 wrote:So, 90 people did our write on. There are 20 grade-on law review spots, and 40-45ish journal spots. At my school at least I was told its the top X that apply, which does not have to correspond to the top X in the class. And yes, yes there are.

Think I just jinxed myself. Our CSO is doing resume reviews, and I included a spot that said Journal?. Probably somehow ruined my chances, but I wanted to know how prominent it should be if I were to make one. There are 40ish spots (not LR) and 90 applicants. I'd estimate that like 10/90 will grade on to law review.

If you put the question mark, you didn't offend the Gods. I put the Secondary Journal I graded onto and "(or LR?)"snowpeach06 wrote:Think I just jinxed myself. I'm very jealous of the people who found out already...we don't get notified until July.

Re: The write-on thread
Bluebook Question. Write on already submitted, but this is for my own edification.
What's the proper citation for citing to a California Court of Appeal decision, from within California, for the parenthetical jurisdictional information? Despite the part of the Bluebook that states (Cal. Ct. App. XXXX) I went with what they drilled into my head during LWR (I still have the marked-up drafts), which was (1st Dist. XXXX) - or whatever district the decision comes out of.
I think I maybe should have gone with what's in the Bluebook. I hope that doesn't screw me too much.

Well, we have 3 journals that participate in the write-on. Then 2 or 3 spots to write onto law review.BarbellDreams wrote:WOW. That seems like way too many write-on spots. I mean, not many. I think they just reach further down the list. They don't increase write-on spots.non sequitur wrote:Are there ever any people who would have graded on, but decline to do Law Review? Re: The write-on thread
This actually becomes an issue the farther down the rankings you go, because of transfers. It happens everywhere because of things like Moot Court and (to a lesser extent) people who just have something lined up and don't want to bother with LR. I think its controlled for by increasing transfer-in slots. I have heard of none who increase grade-on slots -- at least not when they have a strict cutoff ranking.snowpeach06 wrote:Well, we have 3 journals that participate in the write-on. Found out today everyone has already been getting invites to journals. Apparently I didn't make a single journal despite being above the gpa requirement for every single one of them. FML.

That sucks, I'm seriously terrified of my phone not ringing at all on journal invite day.Triangles wrote:Found out today everyone has already been getting invites to journals. Apparently I didn't make a single journal despite being above the gpa requirement for every single one of them. FML.
