Do I really need to take evidence?
I am working in corporate law this summer and assuming things go well, I will be working in corporate law (M&A and PE) after law school. There are many courses I would rather take in my 3L year that would be more beneficial, career wise.
The only reason I would consider taking Evidence is to help with the bar exam. So my question is pretty narrow:
Do I need to take evidence for the bar, or will the BarBri course adequately prepare me?

You're not required to take evidence?

Some schools require it. Many do not.
I've heard of people struggling in bar review when trying to learn the hearsay exceptions, etc., for the first time, but people routinely pass the bar without having taken Evidence in law school.

Not sure why you WOULDN'T want to. From what I hear its a cool class, not gunner-ish and its on the bar.

i think evidence is really valuable stuff to know. maybe you won't use any of it, but i think it's stuff you should (imo) know as a lawyer. it adds a new dimension to my cousin vinny as well.

One of my favorite courses so far at law school. It is like logic games from the LSAT.

For what it's worth, I'm taking Evidence now and I find it enjoyable. I also had a multiple choice midterm that I studied about 25 minutes for, and thought it was pretty easy. Of course, that probably means I blew it.

Re: Do I really need to take evidence?
I took evidence, enjoyed it, and was glad not to be learning it for the first time for he bar. Plus, it has been useful in my clerkship and will be in my job next year too. Highly recommend it, as long as the professor has a reputation as a decent teacher (some friends who took with with a visiting professor who was less than good had a horrible experience).
That said, if you have something else you would rather take in place of evidence now, and especially if you know you are going straight into transactional work, you can easily pass the bar by putting effort into the evidence section of Barbri.

take evidence! you will need it regardless of what type of law you practice. You will always want to know how to protect your client's best interests.
