Blargh. Does every NYU section except section 1 have at least one grade in now?

Also, median is a B+.

Just got an email from a professor with our section's grade distribution (but no actual grades).

I'm dying inside.

I've never had a prof do that, but I'd hate it if they did. How does that do anything but make you even more anxious?

Really? You think so? I'm kind of in the dark on what the "usual" law school curve is. Granted where I go to school has a lot to do with this, I presume.. I can't help but think that my score is pretty good considering what you say of the curve.. or no?
I bet not one person gets a D in my section, or probably the entire school.
This. Sethc, I would be absolutely shocked if your understanding of your school's curve is right, but maybe it is? I think the lowest anyone will do at WUSTL is in the low-mid 70s.

Well, just to clarify you're right--I could be way off. I was only just spitting out what I had heard from other students here out of hope for helping put it in perspective. Also note that I was only referencing 1 specific class (crimlaw) by 1 specific prof rather than the school or the term overall. Your response may have reflected this, but I just wanted to make sure.

My Ks prof did that to us the night before the grade came out. He emailed everyone a grade distribution sheet and a set of general comments. In those general comments, he severely criticized a particular strand of answers that he received to one of the questions, and he even went so far as to sarcastically quote the text from an exam. I didn't happen to make the error he was criticizing, so it didn't bother me too much, but I imagine some people felt like shit if they wrote about that topic.

If she's even still around... :?

Basically our entire super-section hated her and gave her bad reviews. I was the only person I knew that didn't hate her...I was more indifferent, although it annoyed me that we spent so much time treading water and only spent 2 days total on estates, 4 on landlord/tenant law, and we totally skipped covenants, servitudes, easements, joint interests, marital interests, future interests, transfers, deeds, and titles.

The only stuff we studied in depth was acquisition (by discovery, capture, and find), adverse possession, nuisance, zoning, and takings...then 2 days glossing over estates, and the last week we crammed in some LL/tenant law which didn't show up on the exam anywhere.

We don't rank students out here, so I have no idea, but how much does each .1 above the median generally move somebody up the curve (for those of you at ranked schools)?

I suspect the following

3.2 - Median
3.3 - Top 35-40% or So
3.4 - Top 20-25% or So
3.5 - Top 15% or So
3.6 - Top 10% - This is our Dean's List, which is generally Top 10%, so I'm confident about this one.
3.7 - Top 6-7%
3.8 - Top 4-5%
3.9 - Top 2-3%
4.0 - Top 1%
Curious about this as well.

I was talking to a classmate today, and we came up with the following way of releasing grades: just wait until graduation and you get your class rank, JD if you do well, paralegal certificate if you are a fuck up (lolownt), and a punch in the face instead of a handshake if you really fuck up on the stage when you receive it. It will 1) reduce the glut of lawyers and 2) allow me to forget about my fucking grades for 2.5 years, as I'm at the point that I'm convinced I'm going to get straight B-s.

I'm assuming this is LRW or contracts, right? Sorry to hear that you still have nothing -- 3A at least has Ks results.

Does anyone know what the rankings look like at a school where median is your basic 3.0? Our school doesn't rank and I frankly have no idea where to find info or figure out where I am at once the last grade is in.

Top 1/3rd will probably be around a 3.2, after that it'll depend on some other stuff I'd imagine.

Ask a 2L/3L if there are any types of honors cutoffs.

You can also usually find this on NALP.

NALP only shows the top % ranking from years back. Can't it drastically change from year to year?

This would be surprising if it did. I can't see the top % cutoffs changing more than .05-.1 gpa points
