My first impression was that this might be a leading question with a jab tucked in (as in, 'you didn't write-on either, so don't blame a grade for not making it.'), but then I realized that there are schools that probably haven't had the write-on yet, or some that do in fact only do grade-on, and that this could well be a genuine and legitimate question.
At least at my school the write-on results seemed far from fair, which is perhaps why I was inclined to comment if the fact of a write-on competition was being used to imply that a write-on will always make selection fair where there is also a grade-on process. Of a total of 15 people at my school who wrote-on (we have a small class size), a full 1/3 (5) of them came from the same small section of 15 people (there were a total of apprx. 10 small sections of 15 people each I believe). That section just happened to have a very strong writing professor during the first semester, which is when the type of memo required for the write-on was covered. My section of 15 had no students write-on, even though, based on OCI interviews, we had some of the strongest students at the school in my class. We had a fairly poor (IMHO) writing teacher first semester, which, as I mentioned, is when the relevant type of memo was covered. There obviously could be other factors leading to the results, but the clumping phenomenon seems to me to demonstrate that a big influence for who wrote-on was who they had for writing class when the relevant memo-type was covered, and the other indications of relative student-strength seems to indicate that it wasn't a matter of a bunch of full-scholly students getting placed in one section. But I guess the point is that things aren't always fair, and it probably is as fair as possible under the circumstances.

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
Oh sorry, no it wasn't meant to be a jab. I was just ready to sympathize if it was because I didn't think there were schools that still did pure grade on. I didn't realize s/he wasn't doing the write on.
To Barbell Dreams - hope you didn't take any offense, I was just curious.
Edit: I'm always sympathetic to people with graded legal writing because it is the worst class ever

I'm gonna be serious for like two seconds. And I am never serious. This thread is fucking terrible for all our collective mental health. Your grades don't define you, or who you are. Yeah, life seems bleak, not getting a job, yada yada, whatever. Seriously, just let it all go. Be at peace with yourself. If you did your best, you did your best. If I get a job, great. If I don't, I'll figure something out. Don't be at the mercy of the F5 key. Just be yourself, and when they're all in, check them, figure it out and go from there. But don't let it control you or define your worth.
Also IB "You have toilet grades," because I don't. But I don't give a shit either way.

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
this is pretty solid advice in terms of life motivation etc. the problem is that many of us are currently sitting on a range of possible outcomes...over the next few weeks things could possibly turn out pretty shitty, or pretty great. not sure how to feel and the uncertainty is unsettling. but you are right, no matter what the result we will all figure it out.rad law wrote:Yeah it's horse shit.Kilpatrick wrote:Edit: I'm always sympathetic to people with graded legal writing because it is the worst class ever

Me too plum, me too. I have no idea whats gonna happen to me. But I just let it all go. I'm gonna do some good work at my job, watch some TV, eat some good food, and try to catch some zs, and whatever happens to me will happen. I did my best, and I can't do any more than that.plum wrote:the problem is that many of us are currently sitting on a range of possible outcomes...over the next few weeks things could possibly turn out pretty shitty, or pretty great. not sure how to feel and the uncertainty is unsettling.

I studied for two hours for my midterm for Con Law and, even though I think I did well final, I am probably similarly fucked. Which is fine, because I don't think I give a fuck.uwb09 wrote:f*ck, below median in Con Law, the GPA free fall is on

I'm sorry. You're living my biggest fear. Is that your first grade back or do you have something else to fall back on already?

Re: 1L grade waiting thread
I also got spring semester Contracts grade back (median for spring, I had an A- in that class in the fall), this semester is turning into a disaster. For what it's worth though, I felt especially horrific coming out of these two finals (contracts and con law), and I felt normal coming out of Civ Pro and Property, so hopefully those turn out fine.blurbz wrote:uwb09 wrote:around top 15-20%blurbz wrote:uwb09 wrote:f*ck, below median in Con Law, the GPA free fall is on

I hope so! Assuming those new grades are about where you expect them to be, what will that do to your GPA class rank? How does that change how you will approach OCI and etc?
Good luck to you.

#1 goal is maintaining top 25% so I can keep my scholarship, but this is also pretty crucial for OCI as I go to a T2blurbz wrote:uwb09 wrote: I also got spring semester Contracts grade back (median for spring, I had an A- in that class in the fall), this semester is turning into a disaster. Right now I don't know if I'll hit it, I definitely need my Contracts year long grade to average out to a B+, and to get at least B/B+'s in Civ Pro, Property, and LRAW

Mine is 5 credits (other classes are 4, 3 and 3). If I get a below an A- in Property, I'm going to be fucking pissed.Omerta wrote:Me too!
