Suit Question (I already searched)

Postby PirateCap'n » Wed Nov 03, 2010 4:07 pm

I know there are lots of suit questions, but I didn't see one that really answered my question. I'm looking at suits for interviews and other occasions. When people refer to charcoal gray suits, are they talking about a light gray or a dark gray? (When I googled "charcoal gray," both colors came up). Are they both alright for interviews, etc.? Is one better than the other? Most questions focus on whether the suits should be navy, black, gray, etc., so I thought I would check on the shades of gray? Here are pictures of what I'm talking about.

Light Gray Example (just choose the charcoal blazer):

Dark Gray (minus the pinstripes): http://www.fourinhand.com/ProductImages/ftwu/tbt24a.jpg

don't buy a suit at JC Penney. If you catch a sale at Macy's, you can get name brand suits for the same price. Last year I got a grey Kenneth Cole and black Calvin Klein suit for $320 (buy one get one free), so about $160 each.

No worries. That's just the best example I could find of the color that I'm talking about.

Both are fine, though the darker gray is more forgiving to a pale skin tone.

Light gray's usually associated w/ warmer months (spring, summer, or very early fall). I'd go w/ charcoal. It's more conservative and 4-season.

I've found some pretty decent looking suits at the Brooks Brothers outlet for $200 on sale... check it out if you have one near you.

If you have the money, I would look at indochino.com. The one suit I have from them fits better than anything else.
