I have a 20 page appellate brief that I need to finish by Monday. I wrote 10 pages today and will write 10 pages tomorrow.

This thread is relevant to my interest.

Why is the appellate brief I am expected to write with almost no instruction supposed to vastly different from the actual briefs I've seen on Westlaw?

I'm assuming the ones on Westlaw are good, since they are by respected organizations, present clear arguments in a cogent and organized fashion, and succinctly argue their case.

The one I am expected to write is not supposed to look like that at all.

If you find LRW inordinately time consuming, you're probably doing it wrong.
At the end of most legal research courses, the people who think they won (awards for memos/arguments, high grades, etc) are really just broadcasting their misplaced priorities to the world of legal recruiters.

If I ever interview a candidate, any kind of distinction in a 1L research/methods class is an auto-ding.

Actually, I think LRW is one of the most useful classes u will take in law school! Civ. Pro, LRW and Evidence is something you will always need.

If I were to get some kind of Legal Writing honor, it would place last on my resume. I don't care how prestigious it is, the mere thought would make me nauseous.
