Wedding Summer 2011
Hi everyone,
I hope you all can give me some advice. I am trying to set a date for my wedding, but could use some help.
I have heard that having a wedding after the bar exam is a good idea, but what exactly does this mean? One week after taking the bar? A full month? I am applying for clerkships and it seems like the start dates for those vary from about August 15-September 10.
What about the option of taking the bar after clerking, don't people do this? Do they typically start their clerkships earlier than August if this is the case?
I am definitely worried about planning a wedding while studying for the bar and I also doubt I could take much time off for a honeymoon if I am clerking.
Thank you!

Are you a male or female? I think that will help us know how much time you'll need to spend planning the wedding.

I am female and despise the fact that you are, in fact, totally right.

Do you have a potentially bossy mother-in-law? Do you care substantially? If not... have her or your mother do it.

Sorry tophat, but my mother did always tell me to never trust a man that wants to plan the whole wedding lol
I've never been married or planned a wedding, but I had two friends that got married and it seemed like the last month was pretty busy. Because of this, I think it would be hard to have your wedding a week after the bar. At the time you need to be studying the most, you'll have your busiest time for the wedding. I would say wait a month or two after the bar.
I know nothing about clerkships, so I can't answer those questions.

What if he wants all his groomsmen to wear Secret Service-style sunglasses and (working) curly white earpieces, and he wants to rappel from a helicopter to the altar?lishi wrote:Sorry tophat, but my mother did always tell me to never trust a man that wants to plan the whole wedding lol

Haha I think my mom was talking more about guys that want to plan the flowers, tablecloths, invitations and what not. I think picking the style of suits would be ok lol. The helicopter thing I have a feeling any woman would laugh, pat your shoulder and then walk away.vexion wrote:What if he wants all his groomsmen to wear Secret Service-style sunglasses and (working) curly white earpieces, and he wants to rappel from a helicopter to the altar?lishi wrote:Sorry tophat, but my mother did always tell me to never trust a man that wants to plan the whole wedding lol

I'm in my 1L summer and my wedding is in two weeks. I'd say you'd want at least three weeks, maybe four, after the bar. You can get all of your vendors and macro details set 6 months to a year ahead of time. Once you get into fittings and final details in the final three weeks, all of the little things explode. You can have other things to do, including a full time job (I'm an RA to two profs, law review, and OCI in my final three weeks), but you need to not have to worry about the bar in the last three weeks.
