I have one, its decent as a laptop with a second computer as your primary, but just a bit to weak in the vid erforance and HDD (I have the SDD, not alot of room) as your only computer. But it works great as a laptop syched to a desktop, very light, decent battery time.

See this why I ask for advice because I have no idea what that means. :)

The built in video card is not that great is what i mean, its fine for a laptop, but won't work well as a dual role laptop/desktop, for example running the video out to an exterior monitor won't look great. Also the SSD (sloid state hard drive, no moving parts, very fast, but very $) does not hold alot of stuff. If you will be doing your movie watching, game playing porn downloading on another computer its a fine, very good indeed PORTABLE, but its not a mutli purpose machine. i only use mine for when i got out of the house otherwise I'm on my desktop or one of my more powerful laptops. The trade of for being so thin and light is that its role is that of only a laptop, not something you can really dual purpose.

Gotcha. Thanks for the de-coding! Yeah I will probably look at something else then because I want to have the dual monitor, and I don't know if I will have a tv so I will most likely get my entertainment from sites such as hulu and netflix. Are there any windows machines you would recommend that would be a good all purpose laptop?

I want a monitor that I can use for my PS3 as well as my laptop, so I need one that supports HDCP, right? And then get an HDMI-to-DVI cable and something for the sound (either use my component cables or buy speakers and an adapter?) Anybody have experience doing this?

Depends on your budget and use. If you're gaming and/or have a low budget, you should just get a solid TN panel like the ASUS 24'' that I'm using now, which was about 240 at Newegg. Frankly, 21'' and up is all fine, you don't 'need' 24'' but it's a decent substitute for not having two separate monitors.

If you have the money, get a Dell Ultrasharp 24. Those are better on the eyes for hours and hours of document work, but they don't perform as well in games/movies if you care about that stuff. Better viewing angles, higher quality in general, but lower response time and expensive. It's a more advanced type of panel that is more accurate in color reproduction.

It is a three year old AIO. It is in the 7680 series. This has been replaced by the 8500 series. I had one and traded it in for a $50 rebate on a new 8500 Pro Wireless version. The new one works much better and uses cheaper inks...

Here is a link to the 7680:

The replacement series is the 8500 which also has a nifty touch screen display:

I don't know about anyone else, but I've had the same crap printer for six years and never felt like I needed to replace it, buy the premium ink, or anything.

The HP monitor above is a steal, I'd buy that if I hadn't gotten this 25'' monstrosity.

I don't like to shop in real life but virtual window shopping is my hobby and i live by edealinfo.com I visit that site almost every day.

I wish I needed this stuff. Electronics - that's an expensive addiction.

I got my act together on each and every one of the things above and, without any re-prep, I took a new preptest for the hell of it and got a 171.

your advice is good, but getting a higher score on a PT than on the real thing doesn't prove anything.

As far as printers go, my wife has an all in one, but I decided to go with a simple laser printer. Got the Brother 2140 for $69.00 at Office Max last week. Check around as it's usually on sale somewhere. Normally $119.

How do you like that one so far? I was thinking about picking one up in a month or so, and that's the exact printer I've had my eye on.

I second the laser printer idea. I have one just like that brother printer above that I bought for undergrad. It still works, and the toner does not run out every 10 pages like inkjet printers do. However, toner cartridges run around 50-60 bucks IIRC, but you shouldn't ever need color at law school...

The Brother really is a GREAT printer!! Fast, crisp, and clean. Plus, go on-line and look for after-market toner cartridges. Usually you can pick one up for around $25 and it will last anywhere from 4000-12000 pages. AWESOME!!!

I also have that Brother laser printer. My only complaints are that it doesn't understand that no means no. Mine ignores any attempt, any way I try, to cancel a print job, unless you pull its juice. It also prints extra residue around the page. But it's pretty fast, pretty cheap, the replacement toner is pretty cheap, pretty easy to set up, and I will never go back to an inkjet again.
