Congrats sanpiero. :)

To apper: I would likely choose Berkeley or Mich. over CLS, if I ever had such an option. NYC just doesn't match up to my current life goals or even future goals such that I would choose CLS over those kinds of schools. I might even choose NU or Duke over CLS given my current situation.

If GULC is where you belong, you could do worse man!

Sometimes we find ourselves falling into the TLS darkness. I say GULC is one of the best law schools in the world and it is not settling. If that's what you want, screw anything else.

But he doesn't give up his right to attend GULC by waiting a while longer, does he?

Ugh. Got a B on an exam I thought I had killed (no pun intended). Here, that's like failing. Not looking forward to the rest of 'em.

Let's hear from the people who dropped 10-50% in class rank, lost scholarships, etc.

Wrong thread, bro. Take your rational fears elsewhere.

At dinner tonight with some relatives. My uncle owns a local business and started telling me how he went to court cause he got sued last month.

"Yeah I contracted to have a guy come in to install sewer line. He installed the sewer lines and a month later they sank. He came back to fix them, only fixed half then billed me, and I refused to pay because it was his fault tehy sank and he needed to fix the other half. Then he sued me for damages saying it was a sinkhole and preexisting condition on the land and I was liable."

I started having Ks exam flashbacks right then and there.

Tell him that under, what was it, that excavation case, the company takes the risk by agreeing to do something with the land and that they are liable, haha.

Is that the case where every time the builder was almost done, the whole thing would fall off?

lol yeah apparently the guy suing him got wtfpwned in court

his own expert admitted there was no sinkhole and the "sinkhole" was a result of the sewer line contractors' negligence

see there's gotta be jobs out tehre for us somewhere. how do you not know your own expert is going to agree with the other side's expert?

Haha. Yeah, I figured the contractor was a goner. The only way, at least from what I remember, that the guy could have gotten around it was if your uncle would have agreed to reform the contract or if he would have agreed in writing to a risk allocation.

So chances are I may have a good horror story when this is all said and done. First semester I was sitting on a 4. with a transfer acceptance to Chicago "contingent upon consistent performance." However, due to some timing issues on exams and careless oversights on my part it is clear to me that grades are going to be a scary thing this semester. So I may have to withdraw all my outstanding transfer apps and commit to Chicago. Then if my grades turn out how I imagine they may I could realistically see my offer being rescinded.

-These next few weeks will be hell :\. I just wish I knew.

I'm happy with my performance last semester and think 3 of my 4 exams this semester went well, but I'm worried that everyone improved a lot. We shall see...

I thought ED Chicago was binding anyway?

i thought it's only binding on the student. since when do schools bind themselves?

Sorry that was probably poor phrasing on my part. I did withdraw all my other transfer applications. Now just waiting for grades to start coming in.

You know, Chicago is downright evil for this. I don't see how they are allowed to make the transfer binding on YOU but then reserve the right to decline you for "dissimilar performance." That almost seems like an illusory contract where one is bound and the other is not.

If an implied requirement of commercial reasonableness is enough to constitute consideration and save an otherwise wholly discretionary contract, there's no way Chicago's promise is illusory. Besides, the regular ED admissions process functions the same way (granted, you probably have to screw up a bit more to have your offer revoked).

Since you're accepted with a contingency, you shouldn't have to perform on your part of the contract (i.e. withdrawing all other acceptances) until that contingency has been fulfilled. Unless, of course, part of the contract you sign when you apply E.D. to UChi states that you are required to withdraw all other applications even when accepted conditionally. AMIRITE?
