I will hold onto the positive thoughts, though - make sure you do the same! Also, even if we didn't fulfill our expectations for some reason, there are still several semesters to go!

When do you finish with your finals? I read earlier in the thread that you didn't start until Wednesday! I wish you the best on the rest and hope they're wrapped up soon!
Thank you! Of course, I am wishing you the same. I'll be finished this Wednesday, and I believe Chicago will be the only school still conducting spring 1L classes. Don't give in to depression! Disco used to say one good semester is followed by another. I'll keep my own spirits up as long as I can.

In college, I had a semester of straight A- precede a semester of straight C's.

Was there any reason that you knew of? Presumably a drop off like that would not happen with no attribution. I mean, it could... I suppose we'd all just like to hope that after any drastic change, we'd know the cause.

I'll be happy as long as my gpa does not drop... Law school is really getting to me. Yesterday, I fell asleep on the couch. My husband woke me up and he said that with my eyes open, but still asleep, I told him: "You may be my husband but we are competing, don't you see that we are in this curve together?"

My irrational fears just became rational: first semester top 5% and my first grade just came back slightly below median. Here is to hoping this is just an anamoly and I come back strong, but this certainly wasn't good for my confidence.

I'm sorry to hear that... I'm getting my grades on Thursday or Friday and I'm freaking out.

Good luck with that, I think I'd rather get them all early and at least know where I am, but if it's the same as last semester it will be about 3 more weeks before everything trickles in.

At least I have a strong semester to help balance it out. All I really need is to be in the top 15-20% this semester to keep a spot in the top 10% and get law review, so hopefully I can still pull that off.

It's not like you lose the ability to write top 5% exams. I bet the first grade's probably an outlier.

Here's to hoping you are right about that. It was based on a take-home exam with a strict word limit, the first and only one I've taken, which kind of negates the advantage I have of being able to write and type very quickly and get all the issues out there on the page.

i remember saying in the fall grades thread that waiting for spring grades is going to be so much worse, and someone countered and said i was wrong and that waiting for spring grades is a lot easier since you already have an idea of how you'll do and in the fall you are just waiting to see if you are good at this or not

im gunna have to agree now. waiting for grades now doesnt seem nearly as painstaking.

+1

Painful, but not horrible and gut wrenching in quite the same way. Still terrified, but with summer work lined up, relationships with prof, all of 1L in the rear view mirror, and one set of grades in to dilute the good or bad impact of this semester... it's painful, but it's not the worst thing ever the way it was last time around.

I think this time is worse because in the fall i didnt know what the hell i was doing and whether it was going to work.... Now I did well and I REFUSE to let my spot go!!! I know there are going to be tears next week.

Does anyone know around what time we should start compulsively checking for our grades? I think fall grades came out about 4 weeks or so after finals, but I heard spring grades take much longer. Any truth to this?

Edit: I wish I knew before the write-on ends. Doing well will give me confidence and peace of mind, and doing not-so-hot will light a fire under my ass to own this thing.

I think it varies by school. Check the transferapps database.

Okay, I searched my school's website. Grades will be available mid-July. That is a REALLY long time. And it's also when law review results are supposedly coming out. Talk about a double whammy. I am gonna need a LOTTTT of booze on hand around that time. :(

At my school we finished finals this week and we get out grades between Thursday and Friday of this coming week. The reason being is because given out curve about 18 percent of the class gets kicked out from the school, so they need to tell them before classes start Monday, May 24.

Ouch. I guess I will stop complaining now. 18 percent get kicked out?!? That's super scary.
