I think you missed the road there...

meh, i read the title and addressed the underlying principle.
I hear that's a good strategy for exams too.
probably better than finding pictures on the internet to use as my answers, no?

If so, that is pretty messed up. It's not like I can control how much my parents make.
How are you being discriminated against for being rich? YOU'RE not rich. Your parents are. Perhaps you mean you're being discriminated against for being a spoiled brat with rich parents?

Most law schools that I know of don't hand out work study for law school... they assume you'd rather have the loans. But you filled out the FAFSA as an independent student, I hope, so I'm sure you'll qualify for something... just go talk to your financial aid office.
You are wasting your time. This is her TLS Box: I'm the smartest person to ever exist ever. I applied to Harvard and Yale Law School as safeties. When I told them no after being accepting into the Super Secret Elite Law School... (So secret, I'm not legally allowed to disclose where it is. You can only get in by invite.) the deans of the "respective" schools tried offering me whatever I wanted but I stood strong and told them to bite me.
Yes, my conclusion...

I understand the concerns that people here need these work study positions for practical reasons. (They can't afford to work for free)

To rebut that proposition, I just ask that professors add another slot for a research assistant that is UNPAID. And rich/poor students could apply for that one equally, and still reserving the amount they have already for PAID work study positions.

Also, I know that I'm lucky in that I'm able to hold an unpaid internship without having to worry about food/rent expenses. But that doesn't mean that I should be discriminated against to remedy that "injustice". Obviously other reform is needed.

You've convinced me. Sue your school.

You are a spoiled twit with a huge sense of entitlement!

Grow up. If your parents are truly that wealthy you should have plenty of connections that permit you to obtain a position for the purpose of receiving references well beyond the professors at your super secret school.

Personally, I think you are either full of it or so used to getting anything and everything you want that you can not comprehend the real world and what is required to get ahead.

People who are raised with money that would truly qualify as wealthy or rich, which btw has NOTHING to do with income, normally don't complain about being discriminated against in this way because they have no need to obtain a lowly professor's recommendation.

You are perfectly capable of obtaining a RA position whether you filled out the FAFSA or not, because at most schools these are not based on need or workstudy. You would have qualified for loans if you filled out the FAFSA regardless of income, because they are not income based. Please don't talk with such a level of immature ignorance by saying you would not qualify for loans. Everyone does. Income has nothing to do with federal student loans except for whether a portion is subsidized or not.

I have spent my life finding amusement in people like you, who claim priviledge without an awareness that the priviledged live in a different world than the rest along with maintaining a level of respect for those who work hard so that they can maintain their level of wealth.

Did your school actually tell you that you can't do a paid RA position? I don't qualify for need based aid but was still an RA.

What about an independent study? I did that in college and some of the other people working were paid for work study, but I was able to do research and get credit...

I repeat.....it has nothing to do with your parent's income, but more that the professors just aren't that fond of you.

Being a research assitant should be based on merrit- nothing else. I think you are all overlooking this fundamental point. To all those griping about her not having loans and "taking work study from those who need it" - work harder and you too can be an RA.

Seriously?

Regardless of what social stratum OP may belong, parents making $500,000 a year doesn't qualify as rich?

You're ignorant and rich.

If being richer than 99% of all households, and making 12x the median income in the richest country on the planet doesn't make you rich, please tell me what does?

Few points:
500k before taxes for a household income is NOT that rich. I would still call it rich, but it's pretty borderline and I would understand how some people would not.

OP has a point about the difficulties of being "rich" on paper. It sucks pretty freaking hard and I can empathize. In many ways coming from a rich family does cripple your opportunities to make your own success, which actually is more important than you $_$ greedy little poor kids who attack the OP can imagine. After all, material wealth really is as over-rated as many wise men in our history have warned, and in exchange for it, kids from rich families have to struggle with a lot of disrespect/social stigma. It's NOT worth it, because in the end you can look at young adults that come from a family with a household income of 80k and they are many times just as happy if not happier.

Anyone who immediately gets aggravated and complains that they would love and appreciate being in the OP's position is just being ignorant and fooled by a "grass is greener" situation. You guys are stupid. You would really give up a lifetime of respect for making your own success just so you could avoid earning your own rent/grocery money? Coming from a 500k family doesn't mean you are going to be given exotic cars and buying 12 dollar cocktails for every hot chick at the bar. It just means you can avoid a part-time job in your adolescence - but that's an over-rated benefit... working builds character, it keeps you healthy, it creates friendships etc etc. The position of a "spoiled rich kid" is not an enviable one... at least not at the 500k level. I know someone whose parents make over 1 million a year, his life sucks, and none of you would want to trade - take my word for it.

TLDR? LOL you guys are fucking ignorant.
