Exact Class Rank help

Post by stinger35 » Wed Feb 03, 2010 12:16 pm

I am sure there is a way to do this, but I am terrible at Math (I thought everyone that went to law school was, but apparently not)

I was hoping someone could figure out my exact section rank from the following chart. The numbers are all round and although there is 97 people in my section, rounding it to 100 is fine if it makes it all easier. Honestly though, I have no way idea how to do such a thing.

I have a 3.9.

First Quarter
5% 3.800+
10% 3.700+
15% 3.600+
20% 3.500+
25% 3.400+
Second Quarter
30% 3.200 +
35% 3.100 +
40% 3.000 +
45% 2.900 +
50% 2.800
Third Quarter
2.600+
Fourth Quarter
Up to 2.599

If nobody got a 3.91+ you're #1. Nice brag post.

There is a 1/4 of the section with a GPA <2.6? Scary.

180. Yeah dood. Congrats, but seriously...you win, why even care about exact class rank? For your cover letter, just put "...3.91, placing me above the top 5% of my class".
Haha, I was not trying to brag - obviously I am too incompetent in Math to begin to figure out something that took about 1 minute for others to do. Also, I care about class rank for transfer purposes. I am at a T2 hoping to go to t14 and figured #1 or #2 in the class would sound pretty nice in a personal statement.

Where did you get the numbers from? They look way too linear.

Agreed. But I got them from student affairs. Its just the way it worked out with credits this quarter. The fact that they dont give A+ or any -'s (e.g. A-, B-) is also a factor.

If that is what the school gave you that is probably the only thing you can rely on. As someone else said earlier this would be top 5%. Anything else is a representation you cannot make with 100% confidence (even though it seems likely you are number 1 or at least very close).
