Top Law Schools

What drives these curious beasts? Who becomes a law professor? What motivates them? What do they like to see from students? Do they exhibit bias? Are they overcompensating for something from their youth? Should I bring a taser? Whilst preparing for this law school safari in the fall I'd like to hear your thoughts on what these strange animals are all about....

They're normal, intellectual people who take an interest in the law and hope that students aren't retards who write 20-page essays that address everything but the facts and elements of law. Most professors are awesome, from my experience. No need to interpret them as Discovery Channel beasts.

I think they are a lot like snails, based on how long it takes them to grade exams.

My property prof had our exam graded in 3 days! This man is serious about law school, or maybe it's the fact that he is retiring next semester?

I think they've all been normal, everyday guys so far. Brilliant, but to a man someone you'd want to have a drink with. No reason to negatively stereotype, from my experience.

They spend most of their time writing things that nobody reads except for the staff of law reviews. I wonder how that must feel.

Much of their social circle is colleagues that publish and read those articles and sycophantic students that read those articles and rush the stage after class to discuss said articles with the professors.

I think about that sometimes, too. Then again, they're trying to influence interpretation of the law and make a real difference, so they aren't necessarily writing for an audience except for a very niche, influential one - judges.

All that being said, I'm quite sure that it's worth it for them when they pick up their $200K paycheck with absolutely no day-to-day pressure.

You have the ones who are very passionate about what they do, and others who are just there.... they don't want to teach you anything.... and you're basically on your own the entire semester.

You're talking tenured, right? That's pretty comfortable... considering the job description and relative to a more pressure-filled/late hour gig in a firm.

This is very good to know. If I'm involved in some professor/student debate next year, I'll always have the "Mr. Professor, I'm just not sure you're adequately capable of understanding the poor person's perspective here" card up my sleeve.

profs at T3-T4 schools are con artists

can't think of a more morally shaky job than earning 100k+ to write papers about shit no one cares about except for other people earning 100k+ (or those who wish to be them), while earning that 100k+ from people who mostly will never ever earn 100k+

Also, why is the OP posting in the law students forum when he's not a law student yet?

Because this is where I get credited answers.... it's "for" law school students but 0L's can learn from it, I hope.
