Agreed! This is crazy talk! Although just outside of the T10, Cornell nevertheless places very well! I am not sure that such a transfer would make sense unless you are transfer up to T6 and even then I would argue T3!

3.6 is about the 10% mark i think, so it *is* crazy talk.. anyway, there is no way he is at cornell. ive seen his posts and none of the books are right.. lame sarcasm ftl.

Yeah, I was shown a grade distribution per class from the fall of 2008, and only 1 1L doctrinal professor gave C's ... A B- is about as low as you can go! Also, our curve ends up being closer to a 3.4!

Seems like most of the profs I looked at give around 6% C's which can be anywhere from 2 to 6 people per class.

At NU? The list that I have seen shows that on rare occasion, a prof may give C+, but the data that I have suggests that most profs are generous giving the minimum number of B's and B-'s and are not required to given any C's whatsoever.

Not NU. Looked up my 1L UVA profs.

Two of my four profs at UVA regularly give a few people C+. C is almost unheard of, though.

Generally the UVA distribution tends to look like this:

10-20-40-20-10 for A, A-, B+, B, B-

But around 5-15-60-15-5 is common, too, as is a larger spread like 15-20-30-20-15 with a sprinkling of A+ and C+

Yeah, it's kind of interesting that the profs get so much discretion. I tried to figure out a strategy for picking courses based on what the curves look like, but without knowing how I did I can't really know what sort of curve would suit me best :P

Somebody mentioned Elena Kagan's first semester, so I looked it up. I guess it's worth it to wait out the year...

Man for all of us being very smart, I've noticed the people on TLS are truly awful at reading sarcasm on posts.

Just remembered a dream I had the other night. I actually dreamt I was looking back over an answer and it was entirely conclusory (i.e. no factual analysis whatsoever). Scary as fuck.

I mean, generally this grade distribution is fairly accurate, but top 10% of our Section H classes don't usually get an A. Its more like the top 5% or even the top 2%.

I have dreamt about exams multiple times. However, the worst dream that I had involved me receiving my Torts Exam back only to find out that I got an A+ ... I then woke up remembering that I discussed products liability where I should have discussed negligence and that any hope at an A+, let alone an A, is a dream at best ... I cursed god for filling my head with such thoughts!

hahaha
i had a similar dream of receiving an A in torts. i was so pissed when i woke up and realized it was not for real
i have had multiple dreams too. i don't get it
i've had a couple of dreams before the exam, but i don't think i've dreamt about an exam or something else similarly shitty after it was over...
i hope to have a dream free sleep today

I haven't had any dreams about grades, but I sure as fuck felt like I was dreaming when I got my civ pro grade. I've checked it about a dozen times to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Law school is evil.

we're curved at a B+ dooder. You've have to perform substantially below curve in every class to go below 3.0

My worst case scenario looks like:

Contracts: C+
Criminal Law: B+
Torts: B-
Civil Procedure: B+

That comes out to under 3.0 :|

Ha, just switch around Civ Pro and Contracts and you have my best case scenario.

I dreamt my Torts grade was in CTE and I logged on but it was too blurry to read. Gah!

If I'm below "good standing" at the end of 1L then there's not really a point in staying. I'm thinking the first semester grades will determine how much Bioshock 2 I end up playing.

Sorry, I wasn't trying make everyone puke with my comment. I honestly was not expecting that grade, and now I feel even more nervous about the rest of my grades. TLS has caused me to supress any beliefs I once had that I could finish above median. TLS is kind of like the first five weeks of boot camp where your civilian confidence is destroyed.

It seems to me that the average TLSer does much better than just average in law school. We're more "into" law school than a lot of our classmates.

I would have thought so too, but I've read dozens of threads warning people not to expect anything above median. (ie, if you expect to be in the top 5%, there is a 95% chance you will be disappointed.) Plus, this thread is full of TLSers predicting below median grades. I just find it odd.

We haven't gotten grades back for our civ pro yet. Where did you get these grades? All of my reports are still blank and that test was multiple choice.

For anyone wondering, our civ pro class was special because (1) it was our small-group course (only 22 students), (2) it was worth 5 sem hrs, and (3) the final was all M/C (63 questions, I think). I haven't seen the grade distribution, but I imagine the curve was hella tight.

I feel for you. You must have had Mullenix for civ pro. I heard hers was the civ pro final from hell.

To check for your grade, go to the UT Law site for current students. Click on MY GRADES. Then click on FALL 2009. If your profs have posted any of your grades, they should be there.
