Giving up 105K is not worth it. Go to BU unless Cornell comes close to matching.Ikki wrote:I was actually torn between BU and Cornell for a while (BU is offering me 105k), do you guys think giving up about 90% tuition at BU is worth the T14 label?
I'm attending the April 8th date, have you guys contacted one of the diversity orgs on campus? I heard you can stay with them if you ask.

Also, depending on which diversity group you are part of, they might offer you somewhere. One group contacted me.fsohn wrote:Giving up 105K is not worth it. Luckily, they've matched the offer.fsohn wrote:Giving up 105K is not worth it. Go to BU unless Cornell comes close to matching.Ikki wrote:I was actually torn between BU and Cornell for a while (BU is offering me 105k), do you guys think giving up about 90% tuition at BU is worth the T14 label?

Also want 105k from Cornell, if that's what you mean by them matching.

Re: Cornell Class of 2014
Just wondering... I called trying to find out my financial aid package and I was informed that it will be ready this Friday. I also have a couple of 100k+ offers that I would like to use to negotiate (i'm thinking I won't initially get much $ from Cornell). I assume that I should wait and at least see Cornell's initial offer before trying to negotiate, but I'll just double check... Did you bring any of those 100k offers to their attention before they sent you your aid package, or were you just going to use those IF they didn't offer you much $?Ikki wrote:Luckily, they've matched the offer.fsohn wrote:Giving up 105K is not worth it. They coincidentally matched my offer without me having to negotiate.thetobes wrote:Just wondering... Re: Cornell Class of 2014
Thanks! Another question/scenario along the same lines (open to anybody who can help)... I am basically set on Cornell, but like I said I would like to use other offers to negotiate $. However, seat deposits are due at those other schools on 4/1. Can Cornell see if I have seat deposits out at other schools? Basically, do I need to pay those other seat deposits just so I can keep those scholarship offers as leverage... I really don't want to pay those deposits, but I also don't want Cornell seeing that I have turned down those other offers (as I'm sure they would not feel any need to sweeten the pot)...

I'm way confused. Are you saying Cornell gave you $105K? Are you serious?Ikki wrote:

Yes he's serious.
Cornell typically gives out aid in multiples of 15. 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 , and 105.
105k is their highest normal scholarship.

I would probably donate one of my kidneys to get 105k from Cornell... so jealous.NorCalBruin wrote:Yes he's serious.

FWIW, you could probably get $60,000 for a kidney on the black market.thetobes wrote:I would probably donate one of my kidneys to get 105k from Cornell... so jealous.NorCalBruin wrote:Yes he's serious.

I would suggest hanging in there and waiting to see your initial award before you try to negotiate. Cornell seems to be really generous this year. They gave me 120K right off the bat...nearly shit my pants but there it is.

Re: Cornell Class of 2014
I just got my financial aid package and it is all loans, absolutely no grants : /
I went to the ASW during which they offered financial aid sessions. I didn't sign up for one because I figured they'd only give generic info and knew they'd be in the mail in a couple of weeks anyway. Did I totally screw my chances of getting $ by not signing up??

I'm going to the April 8th ASD... I saw that there is a time slot for financial aid sessions, but I wasn't aware we needed to sign up. Are you supposed to sign up for a session before the weekend, or is it something you sign up for while you are there?seriousbusiness wrote:I just got my financial aid package and it is all loans, absolutely no grants : /

Re: Cornell Class of 2014
Does anyone know when and if I will ever hear back from Cornell? Should I be worried? I have auto-admit numbers 3.9+ GPA, 169 LSAT, work experience and wrote a Why Cornell essay. I also applied last year. I'm starting to get antsy.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
