I at least had the courtesy to buy a shitty SVU to drive to school so my classmates wouldn't be depressed by seeing my Maybach.

Roughly 9/10 people pass on the first time. I can't imagine it's going to be too tough to hit the 13th percentile.
My theory is that terrible passage rate is because SMU does not stress bar courses enough. I just passed the bar, but below is the list of subjects I had zero exposure to at SMU; each of my friends at Tech and Baylor were required to cover almost every one. I should've had the foresight to take more bar courses, but I did clinics, law review, and loaded up on courses that interested me.
Commercial Paper
Secured Transactions
Family Law
Wills & Trusts
Oil & Gas
Criminal Procedure
Evidence
Guardianship
Other topics that I did have exposure to were very easy to study for; I basically was just refreshing my brain on consumer law, business entities, civil procedure, and other courses I took.
So, take all that for what it's worth, and take as many bar courses as possible; it'll make bar review ten times easier.

I planned on taking it spring of 3L; unfortunately it conflicted with another course, although I don't remember which one. Also, it's not required, and I knew I'd be 100% transactional.

If any of you guys have questions about exams, either practical or substantive (since I had many of the same profs), please feel free to ask. I know it's a stressful time of year.

Re: SMU 2014
please for the love of all that is holy, don't be the douchebag that posts on FB about how AWESOME you feel about that last exam. Because if you do I automatically assume that (a) you probably don't know what the hell you're talking about, and (b) you have no real friends, so you need the affirmation of the intrawebz at large...
and for that i judge you. so just...don't.

When you nail it you gotta post...even when the Prof says that a student could write for days with all the information. Those 1Ls just have superior knowledge and skills.

It's one of my favorite movies of all time, particularly for Cruise's performance. He was outstanding in that movie.

There's a difference, to me, about publicly broadcasting grades and saying "I think I did well on the test." Maybe it's just me.

There's also a difference between saying "i think i did well on the test" and saying "i fucking ROCKED that exam!!! Eat your heart out [Professor]" or telling other people to be jealous of their inherent torts knowledge.kalvano wrote:There's a difference, to me, about publicly broadcasting grades and saying "I think I did well on the test." Yeah, some of the 1Ls can be THAT douchey. Thankfully ClutchCity and I are awesome enough to outweigh the not-awesome people in our section. Right?

The tests on which you think you did the best will be your lowest grades, and vice versa.swilson215 wrote:There's also a difference between saying "i think i did well on the test" and saying "i fucking ROCKED that exam!!! So true. Law school exams are weird. Think and talk as little about your exams or how you think you did over christmas break. It will drive you insane.chrisokc wrote:The tests on which you think you did the best will be your lowest grades, and vice versa.swilson215 wrote:There's also a difference between saying "i think i did well on the test" and saying "i fucking ROCKED that exam!!! We certainly try at least. I just enjoy the people who think they killed the exam and have no idea how the Prof is grading or how law school exams work. It probably is a direct correlation to the lack of 1ls a part of the TLS community.

Re: SMU 2014
One TLS tip I followed was to take an easy course load for my 2L fall semester. I have three finals and am relatively stress free. Easy to do if you take a summer class or do an externship. I'll never take more than four courses in a semester again.
