I am trying to remember what happens on each day of orientation, but I get them mixed up now. I know what you do, I just cant remember the order.

On the first day, you will probably get a Georgia Law folder you can keep all of your crap in. I don't remember what we did on the first day, to be honest. I don't feel like I needed anything on that day besides maybe a pen or something. You're just going to get Atticus Finch pep talks and they are going to tell you how awesome you are.

If I remember right the second day they take you on the same tour as accepted students day, feed you lunch, etc. Pro tip: disregard what group you are in (A, B, C) and eat your lunch first. Last year, they ran out of food and the last lunch group didn't get any. It is the same tour, and they know that, so they do not even care if you go on the tour again or not.

On that day you also have the "how to succeed in law school" type chats (with the reading). I suggest bringing a printed out copy of the reading and a legal pad or notebook to take notes on. You are probably going to be in an auditorium or something with tiny desks and using a laptop on those is a pain. Print out your ethics scenarios. Those are a total joke, but print them out anyway. You may get a judge as your person so you will want to be prepared in case. Do not expect any of that to be helpful. The second day you also have to take your photo for the directory(the photo is shown to employers sometimes I understand). Therefore, make sure you dress nicely. It's a waist up picture, so wear a button down or something and bring a jacket to put on for the picture. It is HOT in Georgia in August so do not wear it around all day like a tool. Do not wear a suit.

Third day of orientation you will seriously have class(if it is like last year). Double civ pro (if it is like last year). If you get Professor Brown, no laptops. Bring your book, and most importantly, bring your rule book if you have it already. Pro tip: if you do not yet have your book, most professors will put the first few readings up on the internet (they might email it to you or they will put it on ereserve through the law library web site or something like that) so look around. There is also a machine in the law library that scans books and sends them to your email so you can also get a friend to let you borrow their book and make a copy that way if you need to. If you have a laptop friendly professor, bring your laptop. Also, read the reading very carefully. 3 times. Brief it. The first week or so someone usually gets made into an example, and don't let it be you.

Also, I strongly suggest going out to lunch with your new classmates during orientation. Pack your lunch the rest of the semester if you want, but you will want to go out and be friendly for the first week or so.

There is nothing really earth shattering you need to bring to orientation, and I basically just wrote you guys a novel to tell you that.

Also, I better see everyone at Cutters on the 12th!

Hey guys,

Quick question (I didn't want to ask in the computers thread bc there so much in fighting between mac and pc there haha)

Does anyone know if there will be a need for a cd drive (i.e. exams etc). I bought a macbook pro due to the cd drive but am thinking about switching to a macbook air if we don't need it.

ps

can't wait to see y'all

The only time you will need a cd drive is when you do your brief. You will have to write your brief to a CD at the end. However, the library computers will do that for you. For exams, you do not need a CD drive. You may want a jump drive for exams (to back up your test in case something freakish happens to your hard drive), though.

Just as an FYI, Brown upgraded to third edition, and I think it would actually matter because the rules have changed a lot and Brown is very particular about you bringing the exact things you have been assigned. You guys can still buy that, but I would be careful. So, if you have Brown, don't buy your book from any 2Ls. Also, no laptops in his class so take your notes by hand or print them out before class.
Wells is also no laptop. He will call on one person per day the entire class so make sure you are super ready on day 1.

Fair point, last year people with old editions struggled a few times because they were on the wrong page....quite a discount though!

My roommate and I are in the same section. How realistic would it be for us to hope to share textbooks? Are there any that we might be able to share?

Legal writing if you sit together would be it I think. When you get called on you must have your own book and notes or utter is a disaster. I'd also be concerned the Prof would think you forgot your book before thinking you are just sharing with your roommate.
Most importantly if the exam is open book, you can't share on the exam

I am pretty sure we will (except for Criminal). I accidentally rented some of them, gotta fix that. So much for saving $300!

Does anyone have the Contract and Related Obligation: Theory, Doctrine, and Practice, 6th (American Casebook) for Coenen? The bookstore ran out of books, and I'm looking for someone who I can read over the assignment for tomorrow with?

Well, the good news is, we only have CivPro tomorrow, since it's still part of orientation. Our normal classes don't start until Tuesday, so you have a bit more time to get the book/find someone to read with.

How do we find out when our exams are? I would love to buy my ticket home sooner rather than later.

From the main uga law page, click on students at the top. Down below it says "class and exam schedules" or something like that.

How are we supposed to access the student directory? I click on the link, put in my username and password, and the input box just keeps popping up... never tells me anything is wrong, but also never works...

I have that happen to me, too. You can access it through My Georgia Law without that being an issue.
