Dean Gardner is awesome, but I'd be surprised if she knows anything about scholarships. What are you wondering?

Lol. The one thing on all admit minds I expect, WHEN? I know that they are just now downloading NeedAccess and FAFSAs, but scholarship numbers are basically the last thing I expect most of us need to make our final decisions.

Still looking forward to the chat though :)

If I remember correctly, last year scholarship information was released somewhere around Feb 20-25ish. They released scholarship info for everyone that had been admitted up to that point.

Kili wrote:Spoke to a leasing agent at Regents:

1. As part of the law school package internet is free. He might have said cable too, or maybe it was cable internet... Anyway, internet would be about $30-35 and I didn't ask about cable since I probably won't be using it. (RIGGGGOR!!!)

2. Heat and A/C is a different bill from electricity and fluctuates depending on total usage in the tower. It will never exceed $70/unit. So for a 2BR you will never have to pay more than $35.

3. The leasing agent estimated an average additional $100 in monthly electricity costs.

4. There is no option for furnished apartments.

5. The $50 application fee is an administrative fee which doesn't get credited toward your account. Apps just give you priority.

6. Studios are scarce. With the aforementioned law school package, it is within your financial interest to take a 1 BR over a studio since studios are not covered by the package. (You will pay for internet/cable in a smaller studio).

7. The range of rent differs depending on whether there is a view on the lake. View of lake is the higher of the range.

8. A significant portion of their residents are law students. It was either 1/3 of residents or 1/3 of law school. I don't remember. They have a designated "law school zone" in the tower.

9. Their leasing staff is very friendly. You can call them and give them your email for pics (not nudey ones) and info.

10. Costs are significantly decreased with a roommate. Agents said to use UChi, marketplace, craigslist (hell no) to find roommates.

11. Leases are joint not individualized. So you and you're roomies are jointly liable.

12. Parking is $155/month. I'm not bringing a car tho! :D

13. No security deposit.

14. The email you get from them will have the law school package. I don't know why UChi hasn't updated their's yet.

That's all I remember for now. If I find a roomie I'll definitely live there. If not I might run to one of the nearby studios. HTH
I think I speak for everyone when I say THANK YOU. This is super helpful.

Thanks for the regents info, kili. good stuff.
And RE: Scholarship timing. They seem to be a little behind last years schedule. I think the first admits were a bit late, and the ED admits and WL were behind as well.
Coupled with some snow days, and I imagine they'll be a little later than last year's Feb 20-25 dates. Just a guess though.

+1. Native Floridian. I don't even know how to dress for cold weather. The HIGH was 9 the other day, the high!
+99999 watching the news is making Berkeley look much more attractive. Chicago's weather and "intense" culture are starting to make me consider withdrawing from Chicago soon. I'll visit in April, though just to make sure. Since I only applied to one school for college, I've never had to make a decision like this before...ugh I'm way too indecisive for this entire process.

TBH I think the only LS without an "intense" atmosphere is YLS.

I think the Socratic Method scares me more than anything. I rarely speak in class unless it's one of those situations where I feel clearly smarter than everyone in the room LOL. Doubt that'll be often at U of C. With that said, are any of you in this chat right now?

Ya, it's great that there are refrigerators and toasters for that one guy.
Yeah what kind of introvert is this dude? Who has never eaten on campus? WTF? This better not be a representative sample of my future classmates. I feel like I'm going to be the only one comfortable going out on weekdays or playing PS3 at 8 PM.
