okay - now seriously someone explain to me how Chicago is "good for clerking"? Yes - i know the statistical difference and all that because of a small class size buttt they should be hovering around 15%+ really especially if they have a reputation for it.

This is just some speculation, but there are a couple factors that pop immediately to mind. The first one is the obvious higher variation which one particular Chicago class may have from year to year as opposed to bigger class sizes. 10 fewer clerks in a Chicago class is a 5% swing as opposed to about a 2% swing for Harvard. The second is the obvious great increase in clerkship competition for that year which, despite Chicago being the very top, works against everyone. Finally, there seems to be an increasing trend of people not going straight into clerkships from graduating but rather working a year or two and then doing a clerkship. So the number of Chicago grads doing clerkships might be higher, but that may not be seen by only looking at the class of 2008.

Again, this is all based on some basic reasoning, no empirical facts.
