Ask questions people. I think it's so late in the game that people don't hop in these anymore. I know I missed the last two.

Seriously, you'll be happy there is no internet. Distractions = bad news.

Not me, distraction helps me focus. There's always that 2 or 3 minute span where I just can't listen to someone talk for that long. I just need a break to check the news and then I come back to the discussion. Now if there is a lot of discussion going on then that's different.

I haven't got in on one of these things. It pisses me off that they always put them at such inconvenient times.

The three most important changes to the program are that it now offers the opportunity for any graduate staying in public interest for ten years to go to law school for free, that all graduates who serve as judicial clerks will be eligible for the program, and that a generous $80,000 salary cap will make the program more inclusive than ever.

Wow.

I am fairly ignorant about the whole loans deal, so can someone explain this bit to me:

While we encourage graduates to continue careers in public interest, we understand that there are many factors influencing one’s career choices. It is important to know that if you leave public service, and discontinue IBR before the completion of the ten years, you will likely see a negative amortization of your loans. To assist with this consequence, the Law School is offering graduates having completed at least five years of service, a one-time $10,000 payout.

After this quarter's finals all I can say is thank God for the new LRAP.

I know very little about this stuff, but a minute on Google is giving me this:

What is a Negative Amortization Loan?

A negative amortization loan is a type of loan that doesn’t reduce your balance. In other words, you're not paying back any principal. In fact, with a negative amortization loan your loan balance increases over time.

And from NYU's LRAP stuff:

Finally, payment under the IBR option allows for negative amortization. Therefore, if a borrower leaves PSLFP prior to earning forgiveness at the 10-year threshold, the borrower will likely owe the Direct Loan program more than when the borrower originally entered PSLFP.

The idea seems to be that, if you drop out of LRAP before reaching the ten-year point and earning debt forgiveness, all that interest that would have been compounding over time will suddenly be added onto your debt, significantly increasing it.

Yup. Basically, putting the debt in this program doesn't actually pay any of it off until the ten-year point. So you better be DAMN sure when you sign up, because if you quit at year 9 your debt has been gaining interest for 9 years.

And I love how as soon as I talk myself out of UChi for a full-ride, they pull shit like this and I'm back to being horribly confused.
