Re: Chicago Class of 2014
AH! Thanks everybody. You didn't scare me away -- I just had to make lunch.
I'm reading through your thread right now, Dany.
The money says to go to Chicago, but I guess I'm not a very traditional law applicant and I'm not sure if it has the right opportunities for me to explore the kinds of law I might be interested in. The culture seems very focused on corporate law and that's not where I see myself.
Okay, I'll be back after reading!
Edit: Okay! Thanks Dany!! That was exactly the kind of perspective I needed -- just somebody excited and really into the idea of going to UChicago. You helped me see it with fresh eyes. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, but it's good to know that my maybe-classmates are real people who are excited to be there.

My graduation present from my dad is going to be furniture, so I'm going to be able to splurge a little, but:Knock wrote:Link to your favorite pieces of furniture? Furniture shopping is SO FUN.
Too bad I don't really need to buy any. I'll go shopping with anyone who wants to go in September, though!

Galnnn, I'm doing legal history, and I'm SUPER EXCITED about Chicago. I applied to schools with individual professors and academic placement in mind, as well as what student body I would fit the best. I love Chicago because:
1) Professors! (Helmholz! Lior!)
2) Intellectual rigor and motivation of the student body
3) COL
5) Campus
6) And many more!

Re: Chicago Class of 2014
Cool site, but it's pick up only and the closest store is in Virginia. Are you all planning to Uhaul to Chicago? I thought about it because I have some nice furniture in LA, but it's like $2000 ($0.99 mile) and I'd rather sell my furniture and get new stuff there...quetzal_bird wrote:My graduation present from my dad is going to be furniture, so I'm going to be able to splurge a little, but:Knock wrote:Link to your favorite pieces of furniture? $2000 is only the sticker price. They are easier to get money out of than a TTTT law school chasing a 180. Call a few companies, get quotes, bid each company of one another. Profit. My friend got a truck with unlimited miles from Minneapolis to NYC with all the options for very cheap this way...trudat15 wrote:Cool site, but it's pick up only and the closest store is in Virginia. Just spoke to my friend: His initial quote was $3000. He got it down to $600 - he still had to pay for gas, though, which he said was another $400.

I live in VA and I will probably drive up to Chicago anyway because I'm moving with my dog and probably won't fly with himtrudat15 wrote:Cool site, but it's pick up only and the closest store is in Virginia. I agree that UChi places really well in Cali. I was thinking of this more as something that cuts the other way, like if Galnnn wants east coast he should come to UChi.Knock wrote:Choosing a law school made easy: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=153529Dany wrote:Galnnn, here are my thoughts from my visit:
http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 0#p4240671
and I'm glad to answer any questions you have (but I think a combination of what Emma and knock said should be the main factors: [east coast v. west coast] + money.)
Also, I think that Chicago places just fine back on the west coast. I talked about this quite a bit at ASW with a bunch of different students and I am comfortable going to U of C when I am 99% sure I will want to come back to California to practice.
Galnnn, I'm a 1L at UChi and also a "nontraditional" student, feel free to PM me if you have questions.
