No email or money here, and I'm off campus too. Hmph.

Locker update: Admissions staff says the locker assignment system failed and they'll be available next week.

See this now. Still no posting to my actual account, but this is a very promising sign.

Maybe my bank just rocks. Credit unions FTW.

Anyone else really like Ricky's speech where he said you can go be a bitch in big law or immerse yourself in the bureaucratic jungle of government and public interest work, but you should be a clerk and do some real law first.

Lol. He did say that you can do public service while doing big law-- like pro bono stuff. But I was a little worried there for a minute that he was about to alienate a few people.

Does anybody else really not want to go to that brunch on Sunday due to the massive hurricane we're supposed to have (which the governor is considering evacuating some areas for)? CNN said it could be NY's biggest since 1938.

I'm sure they'll understand, considering that the Brooklyn people will only be able to take a taxi/walk

It's not like they're taking attendance at anything but the lawyering classes (which I completely forgot to "sign in" at, now that I mention it).

Oh, I completely agree, which is why I kinda liked it. 'You want to go work for the biggest and best firms and make six figures, sure go ahead, but there's SO MUCH OTHER COOL STUFF YOU SHOULD/CAN DO' is not something I expected to hear anywhere outside of Boalt and Yale.

and the five jokes about how much money we're giving them--at the very least they more or less "get it" and I definitely got a "Thank you guys for coming" vibe instead of a "you're so lucky to be here you should be thanking us" vibe. And I can't say that about the impression I got at some other peer schools.

Oh, shit. You missed an amazing 30-minute back-and-forth between Epstein and Yoshino.
I don't think there was anything else that was relevant.

but seriously, the idea is that class is the best place to learn to speak out if you're one of those normally reticent people, as opposed to when you're actually at a firm and what not...and that being wrong is actually something you learn from

When I grow up I want to be the intellectual offspring of Epstein and Yoshino -- confused, but brilliant.

PSA in case anyone missed it somehow: Big Apple Brunch is postponed to Tuesday.

What are these BLAPA and SBA things? I feel like there's some newsfeed I'm not reading.

Shit, I completely forgot about the BLAPA event tonight. I've been blowing off APALSA like crazy, and I guess that trend is going to continue for the time being. That one's listed in the back portion of your orientation book.

The bar thing is here.

I should join SALSA and convince them to declare war on APALSA.

This was seriously amazing. I haven't laughed that hard since my last comedy show. Plus they were both clearly brilliant, but it was just funny that neither of them popped in for humor-- they REALLY wanted to make sure their point got across.

Hi, my name is Gunner. Nice to meet you.

Fall Final Exam Schedule: (LinkRemoved)
Section 1:
Contracts: Appears to be take-home
CivPro: Appears to be take-home
Torts: Dec 22, Afternoon

Section 2, 4, 5:
Contracts: Dec 19, Afternoon
CivPro: Dec 14, Morning
Crim/Torts: Dec 22, Afternoon

Section 3:
Contracts: Appears to be take-home
CivPro: Dec 14, Morning
Crim: Dec 22, Afternoon

At least we'll have three days minimum in between exams. Not sure about the status of the appears take-home exams, but they're not listed in the schedule.

Spring Final Exam Schedule: (LinkRemoved)

Section 1, 3:
Reg State: May 7, Morning
Crim/Torts: May 15, Afternoon

Section 2:
Reg State: May 7, Fixed-sched take-home (8 hours in a 9-hour window)
Torts: May 15, Afternoon

Section 4:
Reg State: Appears to be take-home
Crim: May 15, Afternoon

Section 5:
Reg State: May 7, Morning
Crim: May 15, Fixed-sched take-home (8 hours in an 11-hour window)

Electives:
Property (Been): May 11, Fixed-sched take-home (8 hours in an 11-hour window)
Property (Upham): May 11, Afternoon
Con Law: May 11, Fixed-sched take-home (8 hours in an 11-hour window)
Tax: May 11, Afternoon
Corporations: Appears to be take-home
International Law: May 11, Fixed-sched take-home (8 hours in an 11-hour window)

So they like to give 1Ls the last possible exam day. Cool. Also interesting: Everybody gets at least one take-home exam, but no more than two (not counting electives).

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
