Re: NYU Class of 2014
Yeah I applied for only studios and 1 bedrooms but because of the cumbersome preference ranking I was only able to put 4 of kinds down. I also selected that I would not settle for a choice that I didn't explicitly enter because I didn't want to be stuck in something else. When I was waitlisited, I just emailed them that I wanted to be listed for all possible studios and not just the ones I selected, and they happily obliged. So just send them an email.
I wouldn't count on it, however. You should plan to live off-campus.

Re: NYU Class of 2014
From what I remember about asking around at ASWs, they have a ridiculously small number of studios available compared to demand. My 4th choice was a 2BR share, and that's what I got.
If you're on a waitlist for just studios, I doubt it's going to happen, but it doesn't hurt to try.

I don't think petitioning is going to get you anything.
From what I remember, NYU functions kind of like the federal government, but with better funding and less accountability. Don't expect anything that goes through normal "channels" to be effective.
For full disclosure I am so hard left a Democrat I might as well be Communist. I'd tax ice cream if I could. Just so I don't generate some hate from the non-big law crowd....

Did NYU really just send me "tuition refund plan" insurance forms? How do I tell them to fuck off most clearly?

Yea that really rubbed me the wrong way as well. I'm increasingly suspicious of the university's priorities.ahduth wrote:Did NYU really just send me "tuition refund plan" insurance forms? How do I tell them to fuck off most clearly?

What I find absurd is people who pay like $300 to extend the warranty of their laptops.incompetentia wrote:Like $500. How do they expect me to pay that off? LRAP?
I think tuition insurance might be useful if, say, there was the possibility of, say, renal failure in your near future.

My guess is that you don't get access to that until after the November 1 career services no contact deadline.bob77 wrote:anybody know when we get our csm/symplicity accounts? i'd like to access the "judicial clerkship handbook"

Re: NYU Class of 2014
I just read this year-old article on NYU's dean and its global expansion plans:
http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/co ... 514193.htm
This is probably every gunner's fantasy:

This is probably every gunner's fantasy:
As a first-year law student, Sexton had a famous confrontation with Arthur R. Miller, the civil-procedure professor whose tough questioning inspired fear in the best-prepared students. The first time Miller called on Sexton, the professor asked him about a case Sexton knew well from his debating years.
Sexton ended up sparring with Miller for most of the 50-minute class, making up mind-bending legal hypotheticals, contradicting Miller's assumptions, and even trading scholarly insults in an academic version of a Brooklyn street fight.
"It was a performance," Miller remembers. "Let's see if I can kill the king and establish my reputation." Miller was impressed, offering that day to write Sexton a recommendation. The next year, he asked Sexton to teach his class while Miller was traveling.

I should call up Sexton and tell him to convince CAS to start offering an A+, if only for people applying to law school.Pivirotto, with a 4.6-point grade point average

does anyone know how the loan increase works for buying a computer (preferably some time this summer)? also, anyone know when we will know what textbooks to buy...does that happen at orientation when we're assigned sections?

Re: NYU Class of 2014
I emailed financial aid about purchasing a computer, and the reply was that in order to receive a loan increase, you have to wait to buy a computer until after July 15th and then submit a request for a budget increase (see: --LinkRemoved-- ). Buying a computer before July 15th makes you ineligible for a budget increase. Also, I think you might have to borrow the maximum in order to request a budget increase (not entirely sure though because of the annual estimated student contribution and LRAP considerations...). I'm not sure about the textbooks, but I would guess orientation? Hope that helps!cruelestgame wrote:does anyone know how the loan increase works for buying a computer (preferably some time this summer)? also, anyone know when we will know what textbooks to buy...does that happen at orientation when we're assigned sections?
