Philosophy and Political Economy. A few on philosophy of law, stuff like H.L.A Hart and, of course, Dworkin (and Hayek if he counts). I took a bit of conlaw at Yale for a summer thing before college but I definitely wouldn't describe anything as specifically prelaw.

I guess I was general chair of my model congress in high school and it was definitely the best times of my life pre-college. It's certainly not too related to law or law school but I imagine it is more relevant than similar things like debate, forensics and model UN. I was also in a mock trial in the same program where I took conlaw that included briefs and stuff. I thought it was aawwweeesome, and I was great at it, so it kinda started all this.



Funny enough, I don't think I've interacted with a lawyer in any meaningful context.

I have a dog. I live in Washington Heights. I lived in Brooklyn a couple years ago (also with my dog). I don't think it'll be that much more difficult to find something - a lot of NYers have dogs. I picked my apartments in terms of access to a park and, if possible, one with a dog park in it. Some parks that don't have dog parks have off-leash hours (before 9am and after 9pm) in certain parts of the park. If you live in Brooklyn, Prospect Park has one. I currently live 5min from a dog park. My dog gets plenty of exercise b/c he runs around like crazy with other dogs. Then he comes home and poops out for the rest of the day. So even if my apartment were small (which it isn't, but I've lived in smaller places with him), it doesn't really matter b/c he's not going to feel restless and stir-crazy when he's just asleep under my covers.

Hi everybody. I got in off the WL mid May, and submitted my deposit online of the 18th. I received an automated response soon after that, but I haven't received any more information since. I tried emailing the admissions office yesterday with no response. Has any other May admit received any more info? If so, when? I plan on calling today unless somebody can provide some enlightening info.

Day 1: saw an apartment where the bathroom was IN the kitchen. There was no door. Just a curtain. Day 2 was better. Warning: wear comfortable shoes and prepare for intense july heat. Also, have your paperwork ready before you begin the search so that you can jump on an apartment immediately if you like it. The turn around is ridiculously quick. I will keep updating as the search continues. Hopefully it will be over tomorrow.

I once went from viewing an apartment to having a signed lease and keys in under 24 hours, complete with having to give guarantors etc. If you have digital copies of all relevant statements it makes things pretty quick.

Can you elaborate on "relevant statements"? I want to do an under 24 hour job similarly - I have to fly in from Chicago to nail the place down, and rentals in New York are like rentals in Chicago on PCP, with a dose of visceral anger thrown in.

If you're using a broker, you'll need a check for the broker's fee as well as one for your deposit and possibly another for an application processing fee. You'll also need:

-A copy of photo id from your guarantor(s) as well as anyone else on the lease (you, a roommate, a girlfriend/boyfriend).

-Any parties on the lease will also need to submit financial statements i.e. your bank statements, going back 3 months is standard.

-Your guarantor will need to provide proof of assurance (in the form of a savings balance of the amount required, or 2 years of complete tax returns).

-Additionally, they usually require a recent pay stub and a letter verifying employment for anyone employed and on the lease (your guarantor for sure, and your roommate etc if they're working), though you can usually sub a copy of your last W2 for the letter.

-They will also likely ask you, as a student, for a letter verifying that you are/will be enrolled at NYU this fall.

If you're subleasing, or renting an apartment directly from an owner, you may have fewer requirements or none at all. Keep in mind that your guarantor typically needs to make around 80x the total rent of the apartment.

Its unfortunately true. also, some landlords will not take out of state guarantors so make sure your broker takes that into consideration. You can avoid paying a broker fee if you only look at no fee apartments but that will greatly limit your options.

All this apartment hunting stuff is making me feel stressed. I should probably get on that soon.

Thats why I'm now hoping I actually do get my studio in mercer.. would just be a lot easier

Honestly, the convenience of resident housing might be worth the extra money. No bills; no commute; 9 month lease; living in the village; and most importantly, not having to deal with a landlord.

Desi (my cat) would in fact agree. She believes she is the goddess of the world, and I haven't done anything to make her believe otherwise haha.

@spacepenguin - It's almost necessary that she's a communal cat because she thinks her ears need to be scratched 24/7. I think I will just pass around a sign up sheet for people to go back to my apartment in half hour shifts to make sure she is sufficiently attended to.
