Let the guessing game begin! (It doesn't help that all of their non-named scholarships are "dean's award scholarships" either

Weird? Maybe they just send the same email regardless if your award changed or not?

Either way, thanks to their marginal increase in aid and psychological warfare they've clearly won, I'll be seeing you all in the fall

Nope--they didn't increase mine, and they definitely noted in the email that they had been unable to increase it. So yours doesn't make sense.

Asked for reevaluation and still got zero. Even throwing me $10k would have made it a lot easier.

The standard $25k offer. I wasn't expecting anything more, and even this is great news. (Probably will be $30k once it's all said and done, considering my trajectory here...)

Hope to see most/all of you in August!

So in all my excitement about going to NYU, I actually forgot to tell them I was coming. Agreed to take their money lol but didn't submit my enrollment form... hence why the system had no clue who I was. Thank God I emailed them before it was too late. Thanks to all who tried to help lol

How reasonable is the COA budget??

1) The loan fees are really low compared to other schools. ($104 vs $1-2k at other schools)

2) There are no "personal" or "misc" line items, is this supposed to be wrapped up in room/board?

3) The room and board budget seems to be low even for their own housing options. How reasonable is it as an estimate?

Is there an NYU students answering questions thread for us to pose questions like this?

I posed the question here:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=133806&p=4329887#p4329887

Hopefully some of the current students will help us out.

No, I'll be suckered into it eventually--unless it's too late for that already.

There don't seem to be a ton of Midwesterners. Doesn't matter. We will dominate NYU with our general placidity and level-headedness.

Your domination will certainly come in the form of proper weather preparation.

Also, this. I think I'm going to list studios as my 2 top choices. I've never lived with somebody long-term, and the short-term experiences I've had have been middling at best :?

I've always lived with roommates and really, I just want to know what it's like to live by myself. Though I'm also notoriously cheap, so who knows what I'll end up doing.

wait but the only way to have roommates (and not pay a crapton of money. well regardless its nyc so youll probably be paying a crapton of money) is if you do non residence housing right? cause if you do the 2-3 br options youre paying more than the studio option at 230 sulliven?

Wow. I hadn't looked at how expensive the on campus housing was, but damn. You can get decent-ish sized (by Manhattan standards) places for these prices. Particularly some of these "entire apartment" jobs:

http://www.law.nyu.edu/housing/oncampus ... /index.htm

They want 2500 bucks for that? That's ridiculous.

I applied to a Ph.D program at NYU last year, and their available housing was 20 blocks farther away from the main campus and more expensive for a smaller place.

The housing is overpriced in general but I'm not going to bother with finding someplace off-campus until I know the city a little better.

2500 bucks will land you something like this:

--LinkRemoved--

It's at 3rd and Astor too.

I don't blame you for not wanting to brave the NY rental market, it's a piranha tank. But NYU is making coin off these buildings.
