That sounds ridiculously nice, to the point that I would like to join you and I HATE doing laundry with fiery passion.

Been meaning to say this for quite a while, and im sure others have said it, but LOVE your name and avatar. Jeeves and Wooster = awesomeness!! Mission for summer before LS --- rewatch the whole series of that and Blackadder

Awww thanks! I just re-read "Aunts Aren't Gentlemen" on a plane and completely freaked out the guy in the next seat with my random guffawing at the wit and wonder of Wodehouse. If you haven't read the books I totally suggest you do!

You're a man with exquisite taste! Have read most of them and love them... Add that to the list! Reread all of that series... Now if I can only figure out how to get Wodehouse in rural Japan...

I know the American Club bookstore in Tokyo used to carry them ages ago, but that's not really rural. Maybe one of the larger Kinokuniyas?

Oh my! Problem solved. They are available on Amazon for the kindle... for FREE!! Now to have them delivered and to sit back with a cup of tea... Thanks dude.

There needs to be a British comedy appreciation club at NYU I think...

Haven't seen you guys in a while. Suppose you've all moved here anyway.

So, anybody looking at on-campus housing? A question I'm sure has been asked 500 times already

Surprisingly, not a TON of talk about it. There are some. Me included.

What are your thoughts?

I also chose NYU over CLS. So as for the awesomeness of NYU (for me anyway.....)

Year long clinics with full time faculty support. 10 of them. Plus another 20 semester long clinics. All different varieties and in different areas. CLS clinics paled in comparison (for me anyway).

Awesome faculty... I was interested in Legal Theory and Philosophy and NYU has the 3 top superstars in that area - Nagel, Waldron, Dworkin... Their public interest faculty is amazing, especially in immigration and poverty law.

I'm not really interested in corporate law or big law, but I have heard that the difference between NYU and CLS in terms of biglaw hiring is overstated. Clerkship numbers are similar.

I dont really regret choosing NYU at all, and I havent had buyers remorse. But I would try and remember all the reasons you took NYU over CLS. I'm sure you had excellent reasons!

Just for ease of first year I think I might as well take it to start. Don't know NY well enough to find a random place yet. Not too excited about most likely having to share a place (such a loner), but it's New Yoahk and what not

Most important question I forgot to ask: Does either building have rooms with pianos? I don't want to lug recording equipment several blocks just to add some power chords

i, for one, think this is dumb. there always have been/always will be at least a few unemployed 3Ls at every school, whether because of laziness or bad grades or just bad luck. it's april, they still have time.

discuss.

ATL seems to treat this as groundbreaking news. No such thing as a guaranteed job, anywhere (especially this early).

The Kimmel Center (it's like 2 buildings down from the Law School) has practice rooms you can reserve.

Either place should be the same for this. It's just that D'Ag has smaller rooms and is closer to the school. (Smaller rooms, cheaper rooms. I don't understand how people pay the costs at Mercer and have any money to live on.) Though Mercer is only a 7-8 minute walk, from what I remember.

Dag does have studios, but they are the stereotypical NYC closetpartments, from looking at the floor plans.

(Mercer is 3 blocks east of Furman. Still not a very long walk)

Does anyone know how selective getting a certain apartment type in D'Ag or Mercer is? Like if my first choice is one of the four-room apartments in D'Ag will I most likely get one, or are they in high demand because they're the cheapest options?

p.s. I just sent in my deposit and couldn't be more excited to be going to NYU with you all next year.

I chose NYU over CLS at equal money. I am 98% likely to do corporate law of some variety.

As a non-traditional student, I have a whole background I bring to this gig. When I talked with people at NYU (specifically OCS and the profs who lead up the Law and Business program), they were very clear that they had dealt with students like me before and understood that I had special needs with respect to recruiting. That there would be certain firms that would be inappropriate, because of the way they assigned work internally and how they "handled" associates; then certain firms that might be particularly attractive, because they would actually want to leverage my business experience. They made clear to me that there would be opportunities for me to capitalize on my background during my second and third year if I sought them out. The whole message was very reassuring.

At CLS I wasn't able to draw any of that out when I talked to people. It's possible I didn't try hard enough. But everyone said "the Columbia name will open doors for you." Which is a marketing gimmick I don't need to hear - I wanted to hear about concrete professional development mechanisms for people with business backgrounds. So in a way, the "name" thing was actually a central problem. I don't have a problem making my own way out there, but if the difference comes down to two T6 schools, I'd rather have the institutional support than the "name." Given all of this, if I was straight out of undergrad, I very well might have taken CLS specifically because of the name.

Related to all this is a sense I got that the NYU corporate program was a bit more "progressive," with the seminars they run jointly with the business schools. Differentiating the two programs was in the end basically not really possible for me - both have professors with who I'd like to work, and interesting clinical opportunities. In the end you have to end up above median at either school no matter what, so these are details on some level.

I'm also basically anti- at heart, and don't like the Ivy League prestige thing. I know that's at odds with me going into corporate law, but I've heard it all before and you can all go take a piss. :P

Me too, it happens every so often, but then I remember how I felt at CLS's ASW vs. how I felt at NYU's (plus 45k that NYU will let me keep) and I get over it. I feel like it will be especially annoying as I have to go to Columbia's graduation ceremony in May...
