Re: NYU Class of 2014
it probably just depends on how preferable the housing is. i take it that for most people cost is somewhat of an issue - but not an enormous issue. So housing that includes less roommates is going to be harder to get, than housing with more roommates. (my guess). you might want to at least look into alternative housing (and the prices) ahead of time - to see what the commute would be like. also depends on what you mean by reasonable assignment - if you think living with 3 other people, with 100 sqft bedrooms and a 200 sq ft common room is unreasonable, then you might worry. if its not a big deal, then don't worry about it. they said 1st years are "virtually" guaranteed on campus housing - so i imagine the people that didn't get housing were ones that had more specific housing requests, that couldn't be accommodated given the relative rarity of the more specific housing.legalmindedfella wrote:So I have a somewhat serious question for people in the thread who are pursuing NYU's housing: Does anyone know whether one can bank on having one of their first four choices, or a reasonable assignment if you checked that you'd accept an alternate assignment if none of the four were available? In other words: do I need to be worried about not receiving housing and having to figure this out myself on short notice?
I realize I probably shouldn't get too concerned about this, but any reassurance would be appreciated. (Obviously I should probably be worrying more about even paying for housing, as half of the assignments cost more than I could afford... but we'll see.)

How exactly does the roomie request process work? Does that have to be done as part of the initial application? (Just in case they won't let me give them MORE money for a studio )

Thank you! Should have searched more, very appreciated.spacepenguin wrote:I asked this in another thread:
As for whether you usually get your 1st choice or 4th, I have no idea--but at least you'll have housing!Renzo wrote:For 1Ls, yes. And I have yet to hear of anyone who wanted on campus housing as an upper-classman who didn't get it, but theoretically 1Ls get preference.spacepenguin wrote:Is the on-campus housing pretty much guaranteed for those who want it?
Put in for a single with the fourth pick, at one of the non-Mercer, non-Dag options. Shared elsewhere, which I'm definitely using from here on out to refer to my financial situation.spacepenguin wrote:thecilent wrote:I can't afford it either. That's probably where I'm headed after first year. First year I really feel like I want to live as close to the library as possible. I may change my tune once I start physically seeing apartments but... first year seems too important to mess with.RJ127 wrote:I really need to join the BK living trend...

Re: NYU Class of 2014
I value proximity to campus for 1L. 2L and beyond I'm down to travel a bit further. BK might be too serious of a commute. Not sure at this point.birdlaw117 wrote:My feelings exactlyahduth wrote:That's probably where I'm headed after first year.
