What is the CBT?

It's a short test at the end of the AdmitNet online tutorial covering a number of IT-related topics.

I am officially Columbia's bitch. No financial aid, and now the most expensive room assignment! I did not request Central Park! Oh well

Could you tell us a bit more about what you put on the housing app and what you got? I thought they were pretty good about giving people what they wanted.

FWIW, of the preferences I stated (don't want to get too specific), I only had one of them followed...but luckily that was the most important one.

My preferences were low price, close to law school and very (very) clean roommates. I called this morning though and it turns out I was sent this offer in error. Anxiously awaiting my next offer, which they said would arrive today.

Maybe we'll be roommates! Sounds like we have identical preferences :)

:? I didn't realize how specific we could get in the preferences section. I just listed the building I wanted...

I wouldn't worry too much. All law school students are mature, respectful, and clean up after themselves, right? :D
I just said I wanted 115/116 with utilities included, cheapest rent possible, and roommates that won't turn the place into a biohazard.

Nah I don't know what I'm doing either. It's not the most intuitive thing.

Has anybody else gotten their housing offer? Was it just that one wave?
Agh, I need to start saving up for my deposit.

I know. First, the seat deposit, now the housing deposit. I am going to need financial aid before the school year starts. :(

I've been checking out the orientation website. So excited! Is anyone planning on going to the Community Service day on Friday the 12th?

It sounds like a great program. I'm definitely going to plan on it... it's already on my calendar :-P

Cool. I think I am going to attend as well. Trying to figure out exactly when that week to move in now.

i cant get to my admitted student documents for awhile but need to figure out some $ issues and i was wondering if some one could jot down the 11-12 year tuition and cost estimate breakdown that CLS provided (including books, rent and whatnot). couldnt find the updated figures online. it should total to 77,000ish.

thanks!

I definitely recommend the community service and other events. The people you meet at orientation likely will be your closer friends your 1L year. PS. The community service was not easy work. Ha. We weeded a nice sized area of Riverside park. There are other types of assignments though.

I couldn't find it online, but on my financial award letter it says the COA is 77,000 exactly. (I'm sure they rounded but that's what they came up with..). Hope that helps.

0L here with a late housing application. Can anybody at Columbia who has lived off campus comment on the market for unsubsidized apartments around Columbia, especially with respect to price/quality and timing?

Price/Quality: I'm interested in a close to campus share for a decent price and that is "warmly" (i.e. not dormitorily) furnished, whether by others or by me. I'm looking at Craigslist, and there are currently a number of great-looking shared furnished apartments for $800-1200 that are within blocks of the school, but they're summer sublets. Are such offers hard to come by in the fall? What kind of places/prices could you expect to find in August?

Timing: I've heard that in NYC apartment turnaround is quite fast and you typically start looking for an apartment about 2 weeks before moving in. Does that mean that the best bet would be to show up and start making calls by August 1st in order to have an apartment by Orientation or by July 15th to find one by August 1st?

i've heard a month, actually. two weeks seems to be cutting it pretty close. but i've still not gotten my housing offer, so it might actually ending up being two weeks if i drew low in the lottery
