You should have a great time. I went around that time two years ago and had even more fun than at the ASW; because I was one of the only admits, I got to spend a lot more time with current students and get a strong sense of it. Have fun!oxford_don wrote:Bought my tickets to visit Yale March 14th-16th. Didn't want to wait until ASW to make up my mind. Will be sure to report back with my thoughts.

Just FYI, that's our spring break - so classes won't be in session, and you might have to try a little harder (try the library, maybe the dining hall) to find current students around.oxford_don wrote:Bought my tickets to visit Yale March 14th-16th. Re: Yale Class of 2014
The Courtyard's fine - it's among the two closest hotels to school. The Study at Yale (on Chapel St.) and the Omni (on Temple St.) are also within easy walking distance and are both very nice. The New Haven Hotel is also walkable, but I can't say I have any experience with it.oxford_don wrote:Anyone have any experience with hotels near Yale? I am looking at the Courtyard Marriott.

I know in past years (and so, I assume, this year as well) we've subsidized travel...I definitely got reimbursed for most of a train ticket when I was a prospective student. I had to fill out a form, provide some receipts, I think. My guess is that you should reach out to your assigned admissions office contact (there are two, assigned alphabetically...check the front pocket of your binder) or just call the office; they might be focused on processing applications now, but if you make clear that you're an admitted student trying to make ASW plans, I'm sure they'll be happy to talk to you.almightypush wrote:bump for this question. i can't seem to find any info on this anywhere.oxford_don wrote:anyone have luck with Yale subsidizing travel?

They've changed it now - it ONLY covers airfare, not ground transport or hotels. The application is a very brief one-page form about your income and need. They get back to you very quickly and at least for me were very generous (but I'm also a poor Ph.D. student!).rabbit9198 wrote:I know in past years (and so, I assume, this year as well) we've subsidized travel...I definitely got reimbursed for most of a train ticket when I was a prospective student. Anyone know when financial aid information comes out? I filled out FAFSA and NeedAccess a couple of days ago and was wondering how long until I should expect to hear back.

I'm still waiting for mine, and I submitted in mid-January... My guess is they accelerate things now though, so you'll probably hear by early April.abitaman6363 wrote:Anyone know when financial aid information comes out? Re: Yale Class of 2014
Did anyone else fill out Need Access, and when it asked whether your mother/father was living in the household, mark "No." When I did that it prevented me from answering any additional information about my parents' finances. I recently received an email from Yale saying I need to provide that information, but NeedAccess won't let me. I thought it was good at first that I didn't need to provide this info (I don't live with my parents, am over 25, and have been financially independent for several years now).

I just saw my Yale financial aid offer today for the 2011-2012 academic year. Can I expect the same amount for all three years?

Yes, approximately; I think you might be asked to take out marginally a bit more in loans each successive year. The biggest change would be that if you take a high-paying summer associate gig, you'll be expected to contribute most (all but about $6,000) of that money the next year; that policy is pretty similar to Harvard's...Stanford's policy (at least when I was applying 3 years ago) was slightly more generous in letting you keep a bit more of your SA earnings.abitaman6363 wrote: I just saw my Yale financial aid offer today for the 2011-2012 academic year. Re: Yale Class of 2014
I recently visted and I actually stayed at someones house for only $30. I went to craiglist and looked up new haven and then looked up temporary housing. They had a couple of places. It might be a little different for ASW though. Oh and I'm not going, Yale is amazing and more impressive than even I figured. It's not the place for me, but for you guys fortunate enough to be going I thought it was amazing!oxford_don wrote:Anyone have any experience with hotels near Yale? I see they just have an email to contact if you think you need a subsidy.

Sorry to hear that you're not coming to YLS, but Harvard is a great school (there's an understatement) and they'll be lucky to have you. Have fun in Boston.unc0mm0n1 wrote:I recently visted and I actually stayed at someones house for only $30. I went to craiglist and looked up new haven and then looked up temporary housing. Re: Yale Class of 2014
First of all I kinda hate posting the reason I choose one law school in another law schools' thread but I got some Pm's about it and I figured I'd just answer it once and for all. First off I've been to both Boston and New Haven. Being from a big city but getting my undergrad and masters in smaller college towns I've experienced both types of lifestyle. I think I will enjoy Boston more than New Haven. Although visiting New Haven did put a lot of my nightmares to bed, it really is a nice town and it's not that far from NYC. Also I'm a veteran and with the yellow ribbon program Harvard is free for me. Completely free not just tuition everything, while Yale has this program it won't be free for me. I also plan on getting an MBA and Harvard JD/MBA> Yale JD/MBA (in my opinion). It will also be easier for my signifcant other to get a job in Boston than in New Haven. Another thing that is important to me is the strong Harvard BLSA not to mention the successes of past black graduates. I also like the bigger network esp. in non traditional career paths and I have zero interest in academia. Lastly even though I hate to admit it, the lay prestige is kinda cool. My mom actually started crying when she heard I got in. Yale is an amazing school and opens up a ton of doors. I will always keep my acceptance letter and for those who choose to go you're probably going to have a great experience the next three years. It's just not the best choice for me.abitaman6363 wrote:[
