To all the 2013ers out there: Did y'all hear back from journals before OCI bids were due? I can't seeing it making much of a difference in how I bid, but it'd be nice to know.

Someone in the Class of 2012 said they heard back on July 22. That would be right in the middle of bid week for us.

We apparently find out tomorrow by 9 AM about exclusives. Better turnaround time than anticipated.

Yeah. And I just read through my note again and noticed plenty of bluebooking mistakes (or, specifically, one mistake that I kept making over and over again). Super.

Last summer out of the 50ish notes I graded, ZERO (not a single one) had less than 1-2 grave BB errors. The above the line writing is just as important (and for most journals, more so) than BB.

+1. No grave mistakes but in the bluebooking world it will probably seem pretty monumental lol.

I don't know why duke seems to love to inspire anxiety. I can't see any (good) reason to send an email letting us know journal results will be out tomorrow. They also do the same with grades.

TBH, I do not have almost any anxiety over journal notifications. However, when they do it with grades, it is so cruel. I never get anything done the day they are announced to be coming out in like 5 hours.

Think about the alternative. They could just show up without warning or they could trickle in over a period of weeks. I suspect you'd spend a lot more time refreshing ACES if they didn't send an email first.

Yes. Compared to "trickling in" this is much better.

So... all 2Ls are "staff editors" on journals, right? (Updating resume).

Ok, one more question: so doing a second journal would be really, really stupid, right? There's nothing I'm missing?

Rising 2L too, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I was in that predicament last week and based on my discussions with 3Ls, alumni, and even CPDC, 80% said don't do it and the other 20% said do it only if you are VERY interested in the topic of the secondary journal. No one said it adds any benefit to your resume.

Basically, I came to the conclusion that unless you were a masochist who really loved Bluebooking and academic scholarship OR you had a strong academic interest on the subject matter of both journals and they would help weave a good tale for employers, don't do it.

Fair enough, that's about what I was expecting. I don't have a huge interest in the second journal (not enough to justify the time commitment, anyway), so I'll stick with my one.

Hey all,

Ill be joining you guys next year as a transfer. Any advice about moving to Duke and trying to do well in school would be greatly appreciated.

I am also looking for a housemate/roommate.

Look forward to seeing you around campus, and good luck in OCI!!!

"May the odds be ever in your favor." (sorry, had to it).
