If any of the current students are hanging about, a question:
Are there any professors/classes that don't allow laptops?

I did not personally encounter any, but they do, in fact, exist. I want to say at least 1 crim prof and I think a few others.rinkrat19 wrote:If any of the current students are hanging about, a question:

I hope I don't run into any...my handwriting is atrocious--and worse, SLOW. Even when I was in school, my notes were mostly equations and diagrams, and I was rotten at text-based notes.

Re: Northwestern Law Class of 2014
My crim professor did not allow laptops, but she posted slides beforehand and had two students type up notes each day (it rotated) that everyone could access. It was not that big of a deal except for the no g-chat / FB in class.Holly Golightly wrote:I did not personally encounter any, but they do, in fact, exist. Re: Northwestern Law Class of 2014
I just posted this in the computer thread, but I thought you guys might find it useful as well.
Just a heads up- I went on the Lenovo site and played around with the X220. I upgraded a few things, and the final price was $1100ish. A chat option popped up, and I decided to ask for an education discount. After working with the customer service rep, she emailed me a quote that I can use to order the tricked out comp for $940
Ask and you shall receive. Also, if you sign up for the newsletter, you get 10% off. Sweet.

Yeah, I think so. The student site didn't have that model listed for education pricing, but I was able to get the discount by asking.bdubs wrote:Is it different than the deals you get here:Eugenie Danglars wrote:I just posted this in the computer thread, but I thought you guys might find it useful as well.Just a heads up- I went on the Lenovo site and played around with the X220. Re: Northwestern Law Class of 2014
I only had two classes with no laptops allowed. For one the professor has retired (FWIW, it was my best grade in a class with an exam). The other was a seminar where you don't need to take notes anyway.Holly Golightly wrote:I did not personally encounter any, but they do, in fact, exist. Saw this when I was lurking in an employment thread. Explain please?
[FN1] Well, if you're at Northwestern nevermind, a 3.8 would be like bottom third and you would be screwed.

Re: Northwestern Law Class of 2014
heh, it is a joke because Northwestern is known for having the most generous grading curve of any of the T14. A 3.8 is actually around top 10-15% at graduation and probably a little higher after 1L. The median GPA after 1L is just a little above 3.33.Eugenie Danglars wrote:Saw this when I was lurking in an employment thread. There is a good post about the graduation GPAs and number of people in each latin honors group here. But note that these grades are going to be slightly higher than 1L grades because of fewer classes under the mandatory curve.

Semi-related to the above, I just learned yesterday that we apparently have a Dean's List. Who knew?

It's for each semester. Apparently it says it on your transcript.bjsesq wrote:Wait, cumulative or just that semester?D-hops wrote:3.50 and up per semester, duh.Holly Golightly wrote:Semi-related to the above, I just learned yesterday that we apparently have a Dean's List. Who knew?

Anyone know if you get hit with the $100 late fee for not getting the health form in by July 1st, or does that penalty only happen if you don't get everything in before classes start? I'm wondering if it's worth the price of overnight shipping.

I think it says that fine only kicks in sometime before the start of classes (a week or two IIRC).cubswin wrote:Anyone know if you get hit with the $100 late fee for not getting the health form in by July 1st, or does that penalty only happen if you don't get everything in before classes start? Also, faxing the form works just fine.

Did anyone ever get a confirmation email after sending it in? or are we not supposed to get anything? I mailed it a week and a half ago and haven't heard anything.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
